Chi- Toews
Van- Boeser, Eriksson, Rathbone, Lind, 2021 2nd

Canucks would be three lines deep at centre and could move Gaudette to the wing or use him to get rid of another bad contract. Toews doesn't want to rebuild and would probably waive his no trade clause to play for a contender. The blackhawks would get a solid Nhler two good prospects and a pick, and they would have to take Eriksson to make the money work.

Huge no from Van

No from Vancouver. As good as Toews is, they have Petterson and Horvat at C. Much younger, much cheaper and Horvat brings a ton of the same things Toews does plus a lot more physicality.

Canucks have a great foundation, need to add some pieces, but not a massive piece that destroys their balance.

Toews would not destroy their balance, they would actually gain cap space, while not giving Hoglander, Polkozin, juolevi or Rafferty. The Canucks could easily use Gaudette or a pick to get rid of roussel or Beagle and would be able to add Hoffman or another D-man. Boeser is going to be unaffordable for his role on his next contract, and the rest of the pieces aren’t near NHL ready and are expendable due to the depth of the farm system.

I don’t mean anything negative for Toews ruining things, just that I think the Canucks are better staying pat woth the big pieces they have and replacing the role players woth better younger ones.

Boeser hasn’t put up great numbers the last couple years to break the bank. He’s a really good player but he hasn’t hit 30G yet. If you could get him in the $6M range, that would mean you could have him and Horvat for $1M more than just 32 year old Toews. And Peterson will come in at a big cap hit. Why have Peterson, Horvat and Toews when you can use Toews $10.5 for a scoring winger like Boeser PLus another player or 2?

I get your point, but in this trade you’d be getting rid of Eriksson as well, meaning you would replace Boeser and Eriksson with Toews while saving around 1.5 million in cap space for the next two years. Toews’s contract will be good for the next three years and the Canucks could replace it with another elite player for the same cap hit and be within the salary cap.

That’s true. I kinda overlooked the Erickson cap going out. That makes it better for the Canucks for sure. Still with Horvat and Petterson, I wouldn’t worry about C for a long time there. Much better to get an elite scoring winger or Dman instead of a C I think.

Ideally a winger or D-man would be better, but there aren’t many teams with disgruntled stars looking to possibly leave, who would be willing to take on a bad contract in a trade.
