I know I posted this before, but I would like to re-vist

To Winnipeg: Myers, Farabee, 2nd

To Philly: Laine, Vesalainen, 3rd

Money saved on Laine could be used to sign Hoffman and maybe even Vatanen

Myers is a nice start, but would need more valuable add-ons and there is probably zero chance the Jets would kick in Vesalainen. Philly also can't afford to move Myers with Niskanen retiring.

Nice trade.

Laine > Myers and Farabee alone. Just my opinion, not hating tho, good thought :)

flyer123 might be frank serivalli trying to make this trade happen to try to save his "insider" rep.

Winnipeg has to find a way to resign Laine. They couldn't keep Trouba.

As the NHL on SiriusXM said Winnipeg is a first rate organization, with good management and ownership, but they can't seem to convince their picks to stay long-term.

If they can't get their own draft picks to stay long-term then they'll either become an NHL development team for the rest of the league, or history will repeat itself and the team will move.

I'm not a Winnipeg fan, but I hope they figure it out because the NHL is better with a competitive team in Winnipeg.

That’s very interesting @chickenfoot I’m curious as to what the reason is for players not wanting to resign

18 Dec 2020 13:25:29
Probably because Winnipeg is an awful place to live. There is absolutely nothing to do there. It’s the backwater of the NHL.

18 Dec 2020 14:01:38
That's kind of a made up "trouble" Chickenfoot. All teams have players that won't re-sign long term. Matthews in Toronto is a prime example. The Jets have re-signed Connor, Wheeler, Buf, Morrissey, Ehlers, Scheifele, Helle, etc. Laine remains to be seen.

Basically the same rate as most teams.

18 Dec 2020 15:39:20
The only Jets big name player not resigning long term was Trouba because his girlfriend was working in NY. This trade with the Rangers worked out well for the Jets. Unlike a team that has to pay 1/ 2 of their cap for 4 players the Jets have Ehlers, Scheifele, Helly, Connor, Morrissey and Wheeler locked up long term for the same amount of money. So the Sirius reporter should get his facts straight. The Jets still have 3 years before they have to trade Laine so they are in no hurry.

Bringing Matthews into another Laine conversation? Your inferiority complex is showing again.

18 Dec 2020 19:04:57
And I know everyone has different definitions of long term but Matthews signed for 5 years out of ELC where Laine signed for 2. I don’t see how both of those are the same lack of commitment and refusing to sign long term lol.

18 Dec 2020 19:30:40
I don’t even disagree with your take on it. But every offseason there’s a handful of young star players coming out of ELC or players with potential to be stars that take 2-3 year bridge deals like Laine did. Kucherov (3x4.7) sergachev (3x4.8) Domi (2x3.15) Johansen (3x4) Boeser (3x 5.8) and tons more.

Over the last 5 years there’s probably 15-20 comparables of guys doing that, but you have some weird need to link Matthews to it so you make a stretch to compare a 5x11+ deal to a 2x$6.75?! Lol.

19 Dec 2020 02:41:54
Matthews got paid were as Laine didn’t. He took the shortest term in order to hit free agency. If Laines next deal is 3 years than he probably wants out. Not to say Matthews definitely wants out cause no one really knows.

19 Dec 2020 12:43:29
I get that. I’m not saying Matthews will be a career leaf. He may want to go somewhere else or play for Arizona at some point, whether that’s after this deal or another and how could anyone blame him after we loved the fact Tavares came home?

I’m just saying when discussing a young guy on a bridge deal, there's loads of comparables around that make more sense than him.

JOE and JET: I listen to Boomer Gordon on the Sirius NHL Channel, and I hold him in high regard.

I respect both of your passion and opinions, and I hear you about the Trouba girlfriend issue.

But I respectfully stand by what I said that its important that Winnipeg find a way to resign Laine. I hope they do.
