While I like Pacioretty, given his age and our current team trajectory. We need that 2021 1st more than we need Pacioretty. We are in a rebuild which is why our trades will be using our salary cap to take on more picks.

Now let’s say we change our direction to want to add a Top6 forward to help push now. Ideally we would be looking for a 2C to play behind Larkin as we do have a clear choice developed yet. We have lots of Wingers, so we would rather spend our assets on positional needs.

So a 2C or Top 4 Dman would be where we look if we make a trade to get one would be preferable over a winger.

Not saying here against the value of the deal but it’s about the direction and needs that would have me say no.

Please ignore the part I said about the first in terms of value, I thought you had Detroit trading ours. My mistake.

I don’t mind taking on Patches for picks/ prospects. Not sure how eager we are to move Bobby Ryan as he is motivated to play here. Maybe we can think of another player?

I agree with the premise of this or a similar trade. You would think Vegas would have to pay a premium to move Pacioretty, or at least give him away for free while taking back some cap like the Stastny trade.

It's so funny how Vegas was considered as such a favorite because they landed Petro, and now they've given away a good, albeit overpaid 2C, a good top4 dman, and are likely going to give away a top6 forward in March or Patches for next to nothing. Honestly if they do trade away Patches/ March for pennies on the dollar I would dare to say that Vegas had the worst offseason in the NHL (unpopular opinion probably)

I agree @TopshelfSlappers. They signed Pietrangelo to a huge deal but lost so many good players in the process. They won’t get what they want for Patches, not with the salary situation this season. He’s going to be traded as a cap dump basically.

Vegas kind of reminds me of the Rangers and Leafs of the 90's. They have to get every big UFA that comes on the market, whether they need him or not. The salary cap seems to be a complete after thought to them. I wonder if they will start to get a reputation as a player unfriendly organization.
