Elliott Friedman has confirmed he’s heard that the Maple Leafs have an offer on the table to Nashville for Filip Forsberg. Interested to know what that would look like.

A futures package including Nick Robertson would make some sense for Nashville, but you would have to assume Leafs need salary going out and Nylander my be included.

Would Nashville take it as a win to get Nylander who is 2 years younger and signed long term at $6.9M instead of having to negotiate with Forsberg who currently makes $6m for 1 more season? Gives them some cost certainty

Or Forsberg for Kerfoot, Robertson, a 2nd round b.

I can assure you Nylander absolutely will not move. Again the leafs are in 1st they won’t trade one of there best players on a cheap contract. A futures based package makes sense.

The problem with Nylander not being involved is the cap. They may be able to sneak through this year based on cap space picked up with injuries and stuff but then this offseason would be a disaster because Forsberg a deal isn’t expiring. It’s another season at $6M.

Andersen not signed, Hyman not signed, Dermott not signed, Bogosian not signed, Simmonds, Thornton, Spezza not signed if they were coming back and already over or right at the cap.

I would prefer they find a way to add a top 6 without subtracting obviously, but it’s not that simple.

Kerfoot at $3.5M makes some sense to go because he’s one of the only guys in that price range in the bottom half of the line up. Everyone else is pretty much $1.5 or under. I just think that hurts balance too. It’ll be interesting to see but I’m happy that Dubas is shopping for difference makers. We need to push chips all in soon.

I’d say the trade would be 1st kerfoot Liljegren you look at what the leafs paid for Muzzin who had the same term leafs could make it work but I think they would have to do some work on the cap.

Hockeyfan: that’s probably fair. A mix of current and future. And the difference in cap between Forsberg and Kerfoot is only $2.5M. They should be able to find a way. But I think Preds would want the prospect to be better than Liljegren. I assume Sandin or Robertson.

I don’t think it hurts the balance at all including Kerfoot. Thornton should be 3C. Hyman has earned a spot in the top 6 and makes the young studs better. I agree with Hockeyfan on the trade value. Maybe even another piece from the leafs.

Tavares/ Nylander/ Forsberg
Many options to fill out the bottom 6. Thornton and Simmonds should have bottom 6 roles with PP time.

He didn’t report THAT offer was on the table. That report you’re using on that website is ShockJoxk Dean Blundells friend, Shug. He’s hired to create clock bait for Deans website. He is the guy last year reported it was all but done that Leafs traded Nylander last year for Parayko and an announcement was imminent. Also he wrote that Piietrangelo was in agreement here. He got it right that Leafs were hiring Babcock 7 years ago and then since then he’s like 0-40 on his reports from “inside sources” within the organization

That’s an entertainment website, but I wouldn’t bet 10c on their info.

Friedman said there was an offer from the leafs to Nashville for Forsberg. Didn’t get into what the offer was or even hint that he knew what the offer was. Just that he heard there had been one.
