Miller has been too important for them and they have such a young core already with Petterson, Horvat, Boeser, Hughes, Demko that they need to mature that group more than add more young talent.

A guy like Miller will help that. If they make a trade like this, it’s just a never ending cycle of a step forward and 2 steps back. Just support the great talent they already have.

Having serious issues doesn’t mean that the young core isn’t good OR that it will be solved by trading a 27 year old who makes $5.25M and has 91pts in 89 games for your team.

And there main issues :

is goaltending wasn’t good off the start (Demko will take time to adjust to being a starter)

And their D are atrocious ( Hughes is struggling in his own zone without Tanev, letting him walk was a mistake, and Myers is awful)

My point is this trade moves out a really good player, prime age on a good contract and isn’t going to do anything to help those problems. Adding another inexperienced F doesn’t do it and as much as Bahl has potential, he’s far from a guy ready to come in and stabilize a blue line, he will have a big learning curve himself.
