I don’t think he’s better, I think they’re almost identical when you compare there age, position, impact etc.

Nylander has a slight edge in pts and Ehlers has the slightly cheaper contract.

To me it’s preference but I don’t see any need to exchange these 2 because it wouldn’t change either team.

I’m not saying I’m the god of hockey knowledge and I joined this site when I was 12 but even then I wasn’t immature enough to make up lies. “Nylander will be better then Marner” is something I have never said I have always been ridiculously high on Marner and I think in 20 years time he’ll be regarded as the best player in maple leafs history if Mathews leaves.

So if I’m hearing this right. you think Matthews will be best in franchise history, but if he leaves, then it will be Marner, unless Robertson stays because then it could be him?

In saying that, people saying Ehlers is way better than Nylander are either just doing it to rattle @Nylander (I get it), or don’t know what they’re talking about. Their offensive career numbers are virtually identical.

Goals per game, Ehlers has a slight lead of .32 to Nylanders .29

Pts per game goes the other way with Nylander over Ehlers .72 to .71

Their career TOI average is 16:27 and 16:36. Both have got to play with other great players and on the PP

The biggest gap in stats with them is on the defensive side

Nylander destroys him in steals/ giveaways. He has 226 steals with 179 giveaways compared to Ehlers 157 steals to 210 giveaways. Nylander has 70 more steals while playing 60 less games. In a league and on a team that is putting emphasis on puck possession, that’s huge.

Ehlers has far more hits and blocks than Willy, but that’s not what I’m looking at for either of these 2 players. Ehlers is a good player, but taking team bias out of the equation, the biggest gap he has on Nylander is the $900k savings per year on his contract.

Nylander has more skill than ehlers, but ehlers plays every night. To me the savings isn't worth giving up the player you know, not at $900k. Ehlers is more valuable to me, because he hits in the playoffs, but I think if nylander finds the consistent play ehlers has, he'll be a great value.
