Columbus: Seth Jones ( extension in place ) and Oliver Bjorkstrand

The leafs get a really good replacement for Marner and a top pairing dman they have needed. Columbus gets an elite 90-100 PPG/82G player who will sell tickets while being young enough to go through rebuild while getting rid of a player who wants out.

Might be wishful thinking to get a very solid prospect and mid 1st for Rielly. He’s a UFA and is a defenseman who can’t play défense.
The Marner trade may work if Columbus doesn’t mind you parting with Bjorgstrand.
Kinda hoping the Sens offer Spezza like 2.5 to convince him to play for us.

Toronto fans have to understand the rest of the league isn't just sitting around waiting for a chance to do the Leafs huge favors by trading their own best players for Leaf castoffs and bad contracts.

Marner for Jones and Bjorkstrand is a joke. Columbus wouldn't want that contract. Maybe they'd trade Jones alone for Marner if Toronto retains $3-4 mil AND they don't get a better offer from anyone else.

Columbus' biggest need is a number 1 center.

Calgary could offer Gaudreau or Monahan + Oliver Kylington or a 2nd round pick or something along those lines.

If Bjorkstrand is on the table too, they'd add more.

@Nylander Ottawa isn’t any old team. If he gets offered more money to go to where it all started with a team now that is at least in playoff contention, I could see it happening.

Also @Moxnis no rebuilding team wants Gaudreau or Monahan. They have to be moved to contenders and their price is pretty low as well.
Gaudreau is about a 1st and 2 2nds.
Monahan less than that.

I'd be happy with a first and a pair of seconds for Gaudreau as long as they aren't very late, which they would be from a contender. Unless of course they're picks acquired from other teams.

A deal like that isn't just about the picks, it's about the cap recovered too. Particularly useful right now with the flat cap and upcoming expansion draft.

Monahan I'd rather keep anyhow. But if giving him up is what it takes to get Jones then so be it.

You may consider Columbus a rebuilding team but I'm not sure Columbus views themselves that way. If they see it as more of a retool than a rebuild then players like Gaudreau and Monahan make perfect sense.
