Calgary trades:
Johnny Gaudreau @50% retained

Philadelphia trades:

Wade Allison
2022 1st round pick

Treliving waited way too long (by 2-3 years) to try trading Gaudreau. The closer he gets to UFA the more his value drops. By the time the trade deadline comes around he should still be worth a first as a rental.

Calgary gets a young right shot RW with good size who plays a Sutter style game for right now and a first round pick.

Philly gets Gaudreau now with the retention making it easier to absorb his cap hit for this year. They'll have no trouble signing him to an extension for less than he'd sign anywhere else too.

Not enough imo. I think Treliving thinks like a monkey and let's Gaudreau walk during FA.

Yeah Treliving is bad enough to let Gaudreau walk and get nothing for him in the end.

What really worries me is he'll do something even stupider, like sign to a ridiculously high long term contract or worse yet trade away half the rest team for Eichel and keep Gaudreau.

Gaudreau 9.0 @ 7 years sounds about Treliving.

- Philly can't fit him under the cap, even with CGY withholding 50%

- Cgy seems to be in "do something now" mode. Sutter didn't come in for a rebuild, and I'm not sure Treliving would be chosen to rebuild the team anyway.

- Allison is injured.

No doubt Philly can find someone they'd be happy to move if they have Johnny at half price replacing him. That's why I suggested %50 retained, to make that part easy for them.

The Allison injury just happened hopefully it's not too serious.

I wouldn't call trading Gaudreau a rebuild.

More like fixing a problem. Allision (assuming his injury isn't long term) is about ready for the NHL now with the size and play style Sutter wants.

LW is the Flames strongest position with Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Dube and even Looch not to mention a few LW prospects who are NHL ready too.

Even with retaining 50% the Flames will still gain ~3 mil in cap space plus a 1st round pick which can be used towards a trade for a top 6 right shot RW.

Coleman should be a good middle 6 guy but the Flames could still use a top line right shot RW.
