Leafs gain a little cap space for this year (Calgary loses a little), a big hard hitting defenseman and a useful draft pick.

Calgary gets a pretty good top 4 LD for this year and a shot at signing him longer term for the future before he becomes a UFA.

But nobody is going to give up a first, a good prospect and a decent roster player for him now.

As a rental at the trade deadline he should be worth a first or a top prospect (but not both) plus a little something extra to a top contender.

If the Leafs don't move Reilly soon they'll either have to move him at the trade deadline, move someone else they don't want to move so they can resign him or wind up getting nothing at all for him.

In the end they'll probably do nothing and lose him for nothing as a UFA because they expect a kings ransom for all their players and think other teams will just give them any players they want for whoever they want to get rid of.

With an extension a first, Pelletier and Zadorov would be my offer.

Pelletier is a bit on the small side, but he's a fast, skilled LW who works hard and battles for the puck. He'd be playing for Calgary now if the Flames weren't already so stacked at LW.

Calgary would have to find another 250k cap space to fit Reilly under the cap this year (They have almost exactly 1 mil now) but that shouldn't be a big problem.

Toronto would be saving 1.25m in cap.

Or maybe a better option would be to just put Zadorov on waivers and add a different, cheaper player to the deal. Richardson, Lewis, Ritchie or Pitlick and bring up Walker Dueher to replace him. That'd open up plenty of cap space for both teams.

My bad the 2nd option above would free up quite a bit of cap space for Toronto but not for Calgary. In fact Pitlick of the four I mentioned Pitlick is the only one that would free up enough cap space to fit Reilly under the cap.

Well looks like Reilly will be a Leaf for a while now. They just resigned him for 6 years with a 7.5 mil AAV.

That's exactly what they should have done and exactly where he should be. I'm amazed Dubas got it done and did it right for a change.

Didn’t think it was possible for MoxNix to look more crazy. Once again his crazy spewings were proven wrong. The leafs retained all of their stars and weren’t moved for the flames crap.
