Kessel is a big man who plays like a little man. He soft, probably from eating all those hotdogs and donuts.

20 Nov 2021 15:38:24
@moxnix we struggle offensively, he could be a good option for our Top 6 F.

20 Nov 2021 16:36:57
Sorry, but I (and very likely Sutter) definitely don't want Phil Kessel on the Flames.

Maybe talk to Seattle about getting Right Shot RW Jordan Eberle (5.5mil) instead and more importantly, figure out a way to get RW/ LW Brandon Tanev (3.5mil) for perhaps Lucic (5.25mil), Dillon Dube (2.3mil), 2022-2nd Round Pick (FLA) and a Prospect or Two, like Glen Gawdin, Justin Kirkland and/ or Emil Heineman and to make the Cap Space work, maybe Seattle takes Zadorov (3.75mil) in exchange for Viking Boy LD Carson Soucy (2.75mil),

Calgary should be in Win-Now mode, whereas Seattle is playing for Draft Position and trading for/ obtaining Futures.

CALGARY LINES:
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Monahan-J. Eberle
Coleman-Backlund-B. Tanev
Richardson-Lewis-Pitlick/ Ritchie/ Duehr

Still need to Trade Valimaki, maybe for a 1st or Two 2nd Rd Picks or package him with Monahan for another Top-6 RW or Centre (Zucha @moxnix), but I think Adam Rucizka deserves a shot based on how well he's progressed. He's Big, Fast, Skilled and Young.

20 Nov 2021 16:45:06
If I was in Treliving's shoes I'd be trying real hard to get Filip Forsberg or Pavel Zacha for Monahan + Valimaki +?

Those two would be my primary trade targets. Zacha as a direct replacement for Monahan, Forsberg to finally get both that right shot RW and the high end sniper they've needed for so many years.

20 Nov 2021 16:46:10
And yes, definitely do not want Kessel anywhere near my Flames. Except of course when they're beating his team!

20 Nov 2021 16:55:40
@TrevorA you’re so biased man. You really think Seattle is going to take Lucic, Dube, 2ND, Kirkland and Zadorov for Eberle, Tanev and Soucy? Lmao that is the most biased sh** I’ve ever heard in my life.

20 Nov 2021 17:20:02
@Casual Go easy on him, he's new here.

His ideas aren't all that bad, he just needs to think a bit more about other team's needs too instead of just thinking about what would be nice for Calgary. And consider that cap space is at a premium right now with the flat cap.

20 Nov 2021 18:15:01
No worries lol and Thanks for the banter and analysis @MoxNix and @NotACasual! Yes, I am a Flames Fan, so am biased, but I don't think I'm being unrealistic. In any event.

Yes, I do believe Seattle would be open to it because at 29 and 31, Tanev and Eberle want to be on contenders, but more importantly this gives Brandon a chance to play and win with his Brother Chris and Eberle gets even closer to home (Regina), which is something he's mentioned wanting in the past as well.

Seattle obviously isn't going to be a contender this year like Vegas was in their 1st year, so they should be playing for the bottom for draft pick position and taking on salary for young players/ prospects or additional draft picks to fill their depth and farm system, which is seriously lacking being a new team and something they can afford to do.

I mentioned Eberle, because I'd take him over Phil Kessel, but there's certainly more RW's I'd pursue prior to Eberle. It's really Brandon Tanev I want. A 29 yr old skilled, gritty, Sutter style veteran 3rd liner at a reasonable 3.5mil for the next few years. Vegas takes Lucic because he also wants to play closer to home (Vancouver) and made a deal with Treliving to waive his NMC for the expansion draft, meaning he would be interested in playing in Seattle, so they have already had talks about him going there and would replace Tanev. Lucic doesn't suck, he's just slow and not worth the $5.25-5.75 he's being paid. He has a good shot and pass, front net presence and more importantly is a leader and protector = brings a lot to the locker room for the young guys as well + would be exciting for Seattle fans to watch (big hits and a fighter), which is good for ticket sales. Same with Zadorov a monster in size and big hits = excitement = ticket sales.

I don't know a lot about Soucy but he's got good size and probably skates better than Zadorov and he played decent in Minnesota, he's a year older but $1mil cheaper than Zadorov as well. They seem like equal value and if it's a good fit, Seattle can always re-sign Zadorov or trade him as a rental for a pick (s) or other prospect (s) and still have the chance to sign him as a Free Agent.

I'm also offering up Dillon Dube who would be closer to home (Golden, BC) as well and has a lot of upside and given 1st/ 2nd line minutes replacing Eberle, would provide scoring as well. He's an RFA till 2024, is currently only 23 and is paid a reasonable 2.3mil. I'm not sure Dube will crack the Top-6 in Calgary, nor is he a Sutter guy, so let him have an opportunity elsewhere. I also suggested throwing in 2 additional prospects/ picks to compensate for taking on Lucic's excessive salary, which again Seattle can afford and needs the depth and prospects for their farm team system anyways. That's my reasoning anyways.

Not enough going back to Arizona.

21 Nov 2021 03:19:44
Can we stop with the hypothetical reasoning for making biased trades? Not every guy wants to be traded closer to where he was born. Dube isn’t getting closer to Golden than he already is in Calgary anyway. Just because a guys brother is on a team doesn’t mean his GM will trade him in a lopsided trade. Lucic and Zadorov aren’t selling tickets I can guarantee you that.
I like the idea of teams taking players from Seattle but they have to be giving picks, prospects or young roster players. Lucic, 2021 1st and Dube/ Ruzicka for Eberle maybe? On second thought if Seattle retains they’d easily get better offers IMO.

21 Nov 2021 10:18:42
Your closer to home comments are way off. The only NHL city closer to Vancouver than Calgary is Seattle. Vegas is much further away.

And Golden is barely over the Border from Calgary into BC. Roughly 1/ 3 of the way to Vancouver. That's a drive I knew well years back.

21 Nov 2021 10:30:31
@Ebsolutely I'd do that trade for Eberle if Seattle retains. I'd even consider it if they don't retain though a first is probably too much for that. Make it a 2nd or 3rd though and it'd be doable.

21 Nov 2021 20:47:41
Okay, my bad/ mistake with the Dube geography comment, but when players have a NMC/ NTC, they have to waive it to agree to a trade. In Milan Lucic's case, I believe he would like to be closer to Vancouver and in Brandon Tanev's case, I think the opportunity to play on a contender with his brother would appeal to him.

I have no delusions that Seattle's GM will help out Calgary or be sympathetic of the fact that they are brothers/ family, Calgary would have to offer something worth Seattle's while. But in all NMC/ NTC situations, I believe reasoning should be added/ included as to why the player may cooperate to make the trade actually happen.

@MoxNix, Not sure where I mentioned Vegas in any of that at all?

@Ebsolutely, I guess you missed the "Dillon Dube (2.3mil), 2022-2nd Round Pick (FLA) and a Prospect or Two, like Glen Gawdin, Justin Kirkland and/ or Emil Heineman" part of my proposal. So 3 Young NHL Ready/ Prospects between 23-25 who can likely make Seattle's Team and help them now + a 2nd Round Draft Pick. Unless it's a Top 10 1st Round Pick, it typically take a couple/ few years to develop draft picks to be NHL ready. I believe Seattle could use some depth and more players in their Farm System now.

22 Nov 2021 07:36:11
My bad, it was Arizona, not Vegas. That's still a lot further from Vancouver than Calgary is.
