Montreal trades:
Ben Chiarot @3.5 mil UFA 2022

Calgary trades:
Nikita Zadorov @3.75 mil UFA 2022
2022 third round pick

The contracts are comparable Chiarot makes 3.5 mil and Zadorov 3.75 mil. Both players become UFAs after this season is over.

Calgary gets an upgrade on defense (nastier too) while Montreal gets an extra draft pick.

Alternately.

Montreal trades:
Ben Chiarot 3.5 mil
2nd round pick

Calgary trades:
Nikita Zadorov 3.75 mil
Dillon Dube @2.3 mil RFA in 2024

The difference is Calgary gets a decent pick for next year while Montreal gets a decent young LW who could use a change of scenery, is signed for 2 more years after this one and RFA then.

Agree1 Disagree1

I live the first option, but Calgary doesn't currently have a 2022 3rd Round Pick, so insert the 2023 Pick I guess, but could we get them to do some retention with that. The more cap space the Flames have, the more options they have to really pursue the players need to advance this Playoffs.

I think option 2 is too much. Dube will start heating up eventually here, so the Flames can package him for another decent rental improvement or return.

Good point on the 2022 3rd. I missed that.

Montreal's 2nd round pick is likely to be an early one, almost as good as a late first.

Also Dube won't be heating up unless he gets to play in the top 6 and stay there. That's not happening in Calgary unless someone in the top 6 goes to make room for him. It wouldn't be a right shot or center either so that only leaves Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Mangiapane.

In Vancouver he'll get more of an opportunity than he ever had in Calgary and be a pretty good player for them.

Calgary's cup window is wide open right now. This is the time to trade a young player like Dube for a veteran like Miller. Miller's contract is pretty reasonable and has another year left on it after this year. That's 2 years of playoff contention he'd be around for.

Heh confused myself there. Ignore the bit about Dube vs Miller in my last post.

Okay, Good Point on the MTL-2nd Round Pick.

Dube's getting shots (45), but his Shot % is currently only 4.4%. If he can get that back up to 10-13%+, that's where he'll start heating up, but hard to get many points playing with Pitlick and Monahan at the moment. Monahan has scored only scored on 6.9% of his 29 shots (low) this year, but if he can get back to shooting more and at the 13-16% he's known for, he'll be more valuable too. Coleman is 1/ 2 as accurate as usual right now too. Nobody seemingly values Lucic, but he's shooting 17.9% this year and averages 13.3%, so again if he got more playing time, his numbers would go up as well; he's a great shot.

Pitlick should be sat for Rucizka to play. I'd sit Monahan too but he's on the 1st Power Play unit, which I don't want to mess with.

Coleman-Ruzicka-Mangiapane
=Defensive Wingers to help where the Rookie makes mistakes

Dube-Backlund-Monahan (defensive Center assists wingers score)
=Defensive Center to pass to Dube and Monahan

And If Ruzicka doesn't work out, try Pelletier
Pelletier-Dube-Mangianpane
=PlayMaker-YoungGun-Sniper = Energy Line

Coleman-Backlund-Monahan
=Defensive Line with Good Shots from the Wing and Coleman to Crash the Net.
