To Calgary:
LW/RW-Tyler Toffoli @4.25/UFA2024
LD-Ben Chiarot @ 3.5/UFA2022
LW/C-M.Perreault @950k/UFA2022
2022-3nd Round Pick-MTL
TOTAL: 8.7 million

To Montreal:
C-Sean Monahan @5.5/UFA2024 (with CGY retaining 875k)
LD-Jusso Valimaki @1.55/RFA2023
RW-Tyler Pitlick @1.75/UFA2022
2022-1st Round Pick-CGY
2022-2nd Round Pick-FLA
2023-3rd Round Pick-CGY
TOTAL: 8.8 million

Line2: Mangiapane-Dube-Toffoli
Line3: M.Perrault-Backlund-Coleman

Montreal is need of a young puck moving LD now = Valimaki and will need replacement players for Perrault and Toffoli. I'm okay to send them a few picks, but they need to take Monahan and Pitlick (who are younger than Toffoli and Perreault) the other way to make the $$$ work. I just don't know if Pitlick is better to have or Perrault.

Zadorov would become expendable based on his salary, so move him for a 3rd Round Pick, which frees up an additional $3.75mil to pursue Brandon Tanev.

Calgary should be ALL-IN for this year's Cup run IMO.

Make it Anderson instead of Toffoli and no retention on Monahan and I'd like it more.

Even then I think I'd rather give up a prospect like Gawdin, Pelletier, Francis or Poirier rather than all those picks, especially the first.

I like Toffoli better myself. I get Anderson is younger with a longer contract, which would be similar $$$ if there were no retention on Monahan, but Toffoli fits that right shot sniper role more and isn’t injured as often, so I feel he could be a greater impact player.

Unless it’s a top 7 pick, Flames don’t typically do well with their 1st round picks and I was trying to avoid the “unwanted trash” comments ; ), so I went with picks.

I’m okay to part with Valimaki and Gawdin, but I’m liking how Pelletier and Poirier are playing, so I’m hesitant to give up those prospects and Montreal already has Kaidan Guhle and Arber Xhekaj (who I actually originally wanted coming back in this trade), so I’m not sure if they would want/ need Poirier.

Pelletier is a very good prospect but he's another left shot LW. There's no room for him in the top 6 and he's not big enough to be a bottom 6 grinder. Poirier is an offensive defenseman, Flames have plenty of those, both on the big team and on the farm.

Oh and I prefer Anderson because he's big, fast and plays a physical game. He isn't afraid to drop the gloves with anyone either. There was no fear in his eyes when he fought Looch, if anything he enjoyed the test.

I would prefer to hold on to Pelletier until we know what’s happening with Gaudreau and whether he plans to stay in Calgary or not. Unless of course you think we’ll get a couple true RW’s and put Tkachuk and Mangiapane back on the LW and I guess Coleman is a LW as well, but he hasn’t started scoring as expected just yet either, so maybe he should try the RW.

Poirier was drafted in the mid-3rd Round. Do you think he’s maintained or improved his value at all? As in, is he now worth the equivalent of a 2nd or early 3rd Round pick or has he slid to a 4th!? In any event, I’d still keep Poirier (19) as I don’t believe Valimaki will stick around, so we have Mackey (25) and Cameron Whynot (18) left as our most talented offensive LD’s, so will probably need him in a few years.

Also, what’s Valimaki’s Draft Pick Value equivalent now? Is he still considered a mid-1st Round Pick or is his Value sliding? I think he would make most NHL teams nightly rosters right now.

Finally, yes I understand Anderson’s size and grit style, I’m just thinking we need more snipers on the wing and power play in case Gaudreau leaves and Lindholm stays at centre. Mangiapane has a great shot but Coleman and Tkachuk are more like Anderson’s style already no!?
