island jet - The oilers are desperate and cash strapped so even though the players (chara and parise) are ld, they can still be usefull come playoffs plus they score a new tender. Lou I think would totaly do this seeing where they stand now imo.

I 1000% agree the Oilers need to make changes, specifically a change in goal and will likely need to compensate a team to take Koskinen, but this would be a huge over payment by the Oilers, unless Oliver Wahlstrom is included in the deal somehow.

Bouchard would be one of the Oilers untouchables. I don't believe Chara would want to move away from the Eastern United States. Not sure the Oilers really want/ need Parise, but anything to switch things up or bring some spark should be on the table. They definitely should be looking at Varlamov though.

Koskinen + 1st FOR Varlamov 50% retained, might work. This way Oilers get a better goalie and open up $2mil in Cap Space to make other moves, while NYI obtain a 1st and save $5mil in 2023 by dumping Varlamov and letting Koskinen walk in Free Agency. Question would then be is there a better goalie/ deal available out there in exchange for Koskinen and a 1st, I personally don't think so.

As Trevor stated, Bouchard is untouchable.
Chara and Parise are zero to no value and Varlamov hasn’t been the same since Colorado.
A 3rd could probably get that, maybe a 2nd or 1st if they get to dump Kosk.

My bad, NYI Islanders would be on the hook for $2.5mil of Varlamov in 2022/ 2023 if they retained 50%, so they may not be open to that unless the Oilers retain 50% on Koskinen for 2022 as well or they work out a deal with no retention at all from either side.

You make some valid points. Chara may not want to go west ( I did offer Chara and Parise to the Leafs for Ritchie and Dermott on the Leafs site) but was thinking the oilers need to overpay in order to compensate with their very tight cap space, and considering yes, they need to do something. cheers!

Koskinen and a first for Varlamov with NO retention probably get the Islanders interested. Koskinen and Bouchard probably gets them to retain 50%.

Only reason Oilers may be interested in Zach Parise is if they need a cheap LW to replace Nugent-Hopkins on the 2nd line when they finally move him to the 3rd line Centre position and Tippett starts playing more than 2 lines regularly, but they should try Tyler Benson or Brendan Perlini there first and better yet Dylan Holloway once he's healthy.

Maybe Parise isn't being utilized properly in NY and still has something to offer. Might not be a bad risk, but they should focus on finding Bottom-6 forwards they can trust first. They have to move Derek Ryan and Kyle Turris out ASAP (Ryan McLeod is better, so should be 4th line Centre) and they need to figure out the difference between offensive first vs. defensively minded forwards and use them appropriately. Tippett has shown no trust in them, yet continues to wonder why they have no confidence and struggle.

I say make a trade or two ASAP, but if that doesn't work they have to dump Dave Tippett and bring in Mike Babcock or Joel Quenneville assuming it's not too early to bring either back from their abuse scandals.

^^ Plus Chara ( a vet of playoff hockey ) even though we all realize he is old but, . Try him on a second line pairing and if it looks bad on a third line pairing for his cap hit is totally afforadable.
