Calgary Flames offer 23 Year Old Dillon Dube + Top Quebec D Prospect Jeremie Poirier + Tyler Pitlick for Montreal's Tyler Toffoli.

Montreal picked him up in Free Agency and he was just Traded to Vancouver 2 years ago for much less that literally turned in to nothing for LA in the end, plus he only has 5 goals this year, so I can't understand paying much more than what I have above.

On a side note, other than they won't be able to make any more Trades after deadline day, why do so many Teams wait till the last day to make Trades? Like other than waiting to see who gets injured, why wouldn't they want to make the Trades and build chemistry and try them out sooner in the season? Does everybody's Value go up that day only or what the heck? If anybody can enlighten me on this curiosity, I would be forever grateful. Can't wait for some moves to be made already, it's pretty clear what changes Teams need to make at this point, no!?

If Montreal wants more I'd exchange Poirier for Calgary's 2022 first round pick.

I'd also offer the same for Anderson except Zadorov would replace Pitlick.

There’s a lot of bubble teams not willing to sell or even buy weeks/ months before the deadline. And the teams that are for sure not making playoffs might not get the value they want and wait until teams get desperate on deadline day.

I’m saving Calgary’s 1st Round Pick to be packaged with Monahan for a 1/ 2C, so unless you want I give up two in a row, I highly suggest using other Picks and Prospects. Besides Toffoli only has 5 goals this year, so it’s not like he’s worth a 1st, maybe a 2nd instead of Poirier, but at least you know what you’re getting in Poirier, so he’s more valuable = >than a 2nd now IMO.

Anderson has great size and play style, but we already have a bunch of big guys, Calgary needs skill and Toffoli is a better goal scorer, playoff performer and overall better bang for Calgary’s buck. I’m sure Sutter would like both, but would pick Toffoli over Anderson, because he already knows Toffoli’s a winner.

@Ebsolutely Good points. Not sure whether they are buyers or sellers yet and desperate teams take chances and pay more for perceived needed pieces when they are running out of time. I’d just think the bubble teams like Boston would want to tweak their lineup to actually get themselves IN playoff position, Playoff Teams like Calgary would realize after playing Florida, Tampa Bay and Carolina that they need to make improvements in order to compete with the TOP teams and the bottom feeders, like Ottawa, Buffalo and Arizona would be selling already to provide more opportunities to assess their other talents and to sell high when a player they longer have long-term plans for is playing well or at their best, which won’t do anything but push their Draft Rank out.

As recent games vs Vegas, Florida, Tampa Bay and Carolina showed, Calgary still doesn't have enough big guys to hang for a full 60 minutes with those teams.

A true sniper and a second line center are Calgary's biggest needs but they still have quite a few small players.

Look at Florida for example, most of the team is 6 foot plus. Only one player with over 5 games played is under 5'11" and that's 5'9" 187 lb Ryan Lomberg who is short but stocky and tough as hell. Three others are 5'11, the lightest regular on the team is Carter Verhaeghe at 180 lbs.

Actually, I think Calgary was lacking Speed, Skill and Finishing.

Yes, Tampa Bay has all Big 6'0ft+ Strong Defenseman, which Tre/ Sutter tried replicating this year by bringing in Zadorov and Guds, but they just aren't fast or good enough. Otherwise CGY's 1st line is Bigger than TB's 1st Line, CGY's 2nd line = to TB's, except Mang, who's skill makes up the difference, CGY's 3rd line = to TB's except for Dube who CGY should absolutely Trade for a Bigger, Faster and more Skilled RW. And CGY's 4th Line is Much Much Bigger but Old, whereas TB's is Young, Fast and so Talented they skate circles around and play keep away from Lucic like he's a child.

Florida and Carolina are not any Bigger than Calgary, they just have a much Younger and Better Balanced Team overall in terms of Talent and Skill. They are both getting scoring from all 4 Lines + all 3 D-Pairings + Good Goaltending. The average age of their Forwards is 26-27, whereas Calgary's is 29. Tampa's doesn't get near as much 3rd/ 4th Line or 3rd Pairing Scoring, but their advantage is Experience, Familiarity + They Have 5 Super Stars.

So Calgary needs to get Younger and Faster at the Forward position by eventually dumping guys like Lucic and Backlund eventually, but in the meantime they need to replace Monahan ASAP for more Speed and Skill and Dube for the same + More Size. Then they need 2 Better Overall 3rd Pairing D-Men over 6'0ft+ and over 200lbs+, preferably over 220lbs+ if possible who not only make a wall, but can move that wall so other Teams forwards can't get around them for Grade A Scoring Chances or who will Block the Shooting Lanes and Keep Opposing Players from getting close to or in front of the Net.

Calgary did better against Carolina, but couldn't seem to get to the net against Florida's Speedy Defensively Responsible Backchecking Forwards and especially Tampa Bay's Big Skilled Defense, all they could do was throw the puck at the net from the outside, making for easy save by Vasilevskiy.

@MoxNix Sorry forgot Las Vegas, which you are 100% right, other than Dadanov (who they will likely Trade) and Marchessault, they are all 6'0ft+ Monsters and similar to Florida and Carolina get contribution from every Player, Line and D-Pairing all the way throughout their line-up. Their weakest link is debatably their Goaltending, especially compared to FLA, TB, CGY, but Lehner and Brossoit are good.

NYR are very similar to Vegas in that all their players are big except Panarin and Fox, but they also have an amazing Goaltending Tandem.

Assuming they're healthy, my Top 5 Teams to beat come the Playoffs in order are: Las Vegas, New York (I think they will make some Trades and improve), Tampa Bay, Florida and then Carolina, which actually Strengthen's your Size argument, but Vegas and the Rangers are both BIG, FAST and SKILLED = THE PERFECT TRIFECTA.

10 Jan 2022 02:53:23
Of course big fast and skilled is ideal but you don't often get those kind of players other than through the draft. When one does become available acquiring him is very expensive.

You'll notice Sutter always talks about size AND speed together. I agree 100% with him on that. Size alone isn't enough. Speed and skill are better, great for the regular season but won't get you very far in the playoffs. Size and skill or size and speed will take you further. I believe size and speed are a little better than size and skill.

10 Jan 2022 14:48:14
When I say speed and skill won't get you far in the playoffs I meant a team built primarily on fast, skilled but small players. A few players like that are fine especially if they're gritty players who "play bigger" than they are.

Porier sucks. He’s fat and has zero work ethic off ice. Buddy has a full on beer gut. Every weekend I see him uptown Saint John at the bars.

10 Jan 2022 16:39:39
Of the Dman in Saint John Yan Kuznetzkov is the best then Vincent Sevgini and then followed by Porier. He makes a lot of turnovers and plays sheltered offensive minutes.

10 Jan 2022 22:32:33
Interesting. It would be good for the Flames to package Poirier for a piece they need then, like I’m suggesting. Never heard of Sevigny. Didn’t see any stats for him with St Johns either but his previous stats look good. Has he played with them yet? Was he drafted?

10 Jan 2022 22:34:20
Back in the 80's every weekend and most Thursday nights I saw Gretyzy, Messier, Coffey and the rest of the oilers in the bars in Edmonton.

No wonder they never did anything. Oh wait.

11 Jan 2022 02:59:57
@TrevorA If you haven't figured it out yet that oiler fan (on multiple alts) trashes Flames players and prospects all the time.

12 Jan 2022 01:10:47
Which one, there’s so many lol. The only one I find truly distasteful would be Burke’s Law on THW. He just seems to want to agitate people for he fun of it. I get more upset when my posts get rejected over nothing, I feel I’m appreciative of everyone’s opinions and although opinionated myself, I think I’m respectful.

12 Jan 2022 01:16:52
I live in Edmonton and am surrounded by Oilers Fans, who won’t ever watch or cheer for the Flames, even though they’re more fun to watch or the Oilers at eliminated, so I’m used to it. I cheer for and watch and follow both teams, but I enjoy Calgary the most. The Oilers and their Old Boys Club Mentality drive me nuts.

How do you get that many Top-10 picks and not be dominant over the past 15 years is my question for Oilers Fans.

12 Jan 2022 14:02:50
That's funny, I tried to be an oilers fan when I was there but I kept running into those guys at the bars and I couldn't stand most of them.

So when the Flames moved to Calgary I became a Flames fan.

MTL respectfully declines.
