Sure, Absolutely, but can you elaborate why you think Dallas would do that?

TrevorA Dallas was playing Benn on 2C for some reason and knowing Benn is a winger I was thinking they were probably very weak at C.

The reason I didn’t put any picks and prospects is because Dallas wants a player that can contribute right now not in the future.

If there's even the slightest chance Dallas might consider that Treliving better be on the phone discussing it right now!

I honestly value Monahan with no retention as a late 2nd RD Round Pick + a 2nd RD Prospect right now. With $1-2mil/ yr Retained, he’s a Two (2x) 2nd RD Picks + a 2nd RD Prospect. With 50% Retention he’s a 1st RD Pick + 2nd RD Pick + 3rd RD Pick, or equivalent Prospect or NHL Regular.

For how he’s playing and what he’s producing, he’s worth somewhere between $3.5-4.5mil/ yr.

So I think Calgary would likely have to retain $1.5-$2mil per year to get Klingberg straight across, which would still benefit the Flames to do so.

Klingberg is UFA and going to market. I'm not sure why CGY does this. Regardless, in a flat cap world for up to 3 more years, many teams can only consider dollar for dollar deals. This deal would put Dallas over the cap, and CGY doesn't have the cap space to retain. You'd need to balance out the dollars or involve a 3rd team.

Klinger is a great piece, but I wouldn't create a hole to fill another if I was CGY. Calgary has a good thing going and I suspect Treliving will make a move or two.

@Chickenfoot The problem is with the way Monahan has been playing this year and last year there already is a hole at 2nd/ 3rd line center. Moving Monahan won't change that so if trading him improves the team elsewhere then do it.

Sure it would look bad for the Flames in retrospect if he rebounds next year but they need a better second/ third line center right now than he's been lately. Recovering his cap hit will help with resigning free agents next year too.
