With the departure of Holl The Leafs call up Duszak who is a Top producer in The AHL on Defense, let's see if he is NHL ready, if he isn't The Leafs will have 1.5m in Cap to play with if they also loan Clifford back to The AHL, that's a 22 man roster with flexibility.

I like McCann but I don’t think he’s worth a first. If he was this trade would have been made during expansion draft and it wasnt.

McCann has scored 15 Goals in 31 Games already this season, which would work out 40 Goals/ 82 Games Played. I'd love to have him on the Flames and would trade a 1st + Something for him no problem. Flames will need a replacement for Backlund soon and he would be perfect.

Toronto acquired Jared McCann from Pittsburgh so they could leave him unprotected and have Seattle pick him in the expansion draft instead of their other players that they wanted protected. McCann is proving to be a very good player though and probably should have been kept and protected by both Pittsburgh and Toronto. Hind Sight is always 20/ 20 though.

Hey Trevor, McCann is a free agent after this season. I agree with your assessment of him, but why not save the 1st+ and try to sign him in the off-season?

Also, you still have Backlund for 2 more seasons at 5.35M. If you can nab McCann, then trade Backlund to address another area.

McCann is an RFA, so Calgary would have some control and would look to sign and secure him long term for $5-5.5mil/ yr and then yes, they would look to move Monahan by the TDL for other needed pieces and Backlund at the same time or definitely by the off season for sure to clear space for McCann’s and other other Free Agent signings. Just not sure whether Seattle will give McCann up or not.

Gotcha Trevor. you are correct. He would be a great piece indeed.

A trade like this often comes down what the coach thinks about the 2 players as well. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in Sutter's office.
