Winnipeg trades:
Pierre Luc Dubois

Calgary trades:
Connor Zary
Matthew Phillips
2022 second round pick
2023 first round pick

Calgary gets a big physical two way 2nd line center they'll have for 2 years. He'll probably sign with Montreal after that.

Winnipeg gets two center prospects plus a 2nd round pick this year and a 1st next year.

With Winnipeg likely to lose both Scheifele and Dubois in 2 years, it's time to trade them both while they can still get something for them and kick off a rebuild.

Without a long-term commitment, no thanks.

There’s Free Agents coming available that are just as good and better with no acquisition cost, especially if it’ll only be for a couple years.

Calgary gets a great young player and the Jets get two 3rd/ 4th line players and late 1st and 2nd round draft picks. Not a good trade for the Jets to do.

Then trade him to Montreal, probably the only team that can be pretty confident they'll be able to resign him.

24 Jun 2022 04:17:03
@IslandJet It's unlikely any team will offer more than that. With the exception of Montreal he probably won't sign with anyone else without testing free agency first either. That's a huge risk for any other team to take.

Montreal won't pay all that much for him either because they know they're more than likely his first choice of teams to sign with when he becomes a UFA anyhow.

You're not wrong Islandjet, but Zary has potential to be Top-6 still and the 1st and/ or 2nd could produce something big as well, you never know. I agree Phillips is a wildcard, but I think he could be a decent NHL Player too, he just needs to be given a chance. Dubois is great, but his statement virtually makes him a rental, so that has to affect his value, no!?

24 Jun 2022 06:55:18
Where are the 3rd/ 4th liners? At least be accurate with the players. Zary is 20, he’s a top prospect. Phillips is a stud AHL guy but at 24 he might end up being a fringe NHLer? I don’t know his game but the Oilers have two of those guys, Benson and Marody and they have no value.

24 Jun 2022 12:07:01
Phillips could be another Derek Ryan type. He has skill but he's tiny even smaller than Ryan.

Ebsolutely is probably right though, he's a fringe player who might make some other teams will likely never make the Flames.

24 Jun 2022 13:30:34
Probably no interest from Winnipeg. Dubois would get a similar return as a pure rental. So they just keep him until then.

24 Jun 2022 18:02:48
@Ebs-Oilers also have Yamamoto who's good and is even smaller than Phillips. Somebody needs to just give him a chance.

25 Jun 2022 00:03:04
Yamo was also a 1st round pick that made the NHL at 22.

25 Jun 2022 01:44:48
Could have been undrafted like Yanni Gourde and still become a good player. My point being, small guys have been successful in the NHL.

25 Jun 2022 04:12:06
The vast majority of the good little players don't just have good skills. They either have elite skills (Gaudreau for example) or are hardworking gritty players who are very strong for their size. Theo Fleury, Alex Debrincat, same for slightly taller players like Mangiapane and Galagher.

25 Jun 2022 04:22:44
Pelletier is the former and Phillips would be the latter. Boom ? Go Flames! ?.

25 Jun 2022 13:50:26
Phillips is a Jet after the Dubois trade. :)
