EDM needs a Starting Goalie. Mrazek is good other than when playing for TOR. It's a gamble, but so is going with 40 year old in Smith. No real acquisition cost + $3.8mil isn't terrible for a starting Goalie. TOR does it to rid themselves of Mrzaek's contract and if Smith retires, that's perfectly fine by them too.

Sign a lesser goalie to a one year deal for league minimum instead of committing 3.8M for 2 years to below average goaltending.

Who are you thinking or suggesting? Hard to find a decent starting Goalie for under $4mil. Mark my words, a healthy Mrzaek will rebound and return to form once he moves to a different team. TOR doesn't do the best job of giving their Goaltenders confidence; not that EDM is much better, but he was amazing prior to going to TOR.

I think Matt Murray would be a better option than Mrazek. but that's debatable. Goalies seem to shine once they escape Toronto.

@seabass Yeah goalies do tend to look better when they go to a team that plays better defense in front of them.

Eric Comrie might be a low cost option but I still think he’ll want around $2.5mil/ yr.
