CGY's 2024-3rd Round Pick FOR
VAN'S Tyler Myers $6mil/UFA2024

OPTIONAL (if he doesn't retire, which is the better option): Milan Lucic 50% Retained + CGY's 2023-4th Round Pick FOR VAN's 2023-7th Round Pick

VAN needs Cap Space and CGY needs a replacement for Gudbranson + Tanev until he's back from injury

Other Options are Justin Holl, Scott Mayfield, Luke Schenn OR they go all out for Brandon Carlo or Jacob Trouba. NYR could use Cap Space but I doubt Schenn or Carlo are available

Calgary isn't taking on cap dumps and would be getting a pick for doing it not giving one away.

15 Jul 2022 21:38:23
Vancouver needs RHD at the moment. unless the get a few more via trade. this likely won't happen. Van will gain cap space by trading forwards, not defenseman.

Unless calgary would seek a forward, I think these two are unlikely trade partners, let alone the fact they are division rivals.

This is why I say "unbelievable"

On the other hand if Looch won't retire then trading him for Myers straight up might be an option.

15 Jul 2022 22:57:20
You are seriously under valuing Myers @MoxNix

Would love him to be at $4.5mil like Tanev & Andersson, but Huge (6’8 230lbs) + Physical + Puck Blocking + PK Specialist RD’s are rare and cost a premium and we already lost the chance to sign Gudbranson, Joshua Brown and Austin Strand. I’d prefer Luke Schenn but I doubt they’ll give him up. Maybe they can get some retention on Myers!?

He’s VAN’s 1RD and plays 22-25mins/ game. Cheaper options are PK Subban and Michael Stone or Trading for Justin Holl, but they’re nowhere near as good Defensively. Trading for Trouba or Carlo would cost us a ton more assets

@Bumble, VAN has 6 RDs with NHL Experience: Myers, Schenn, Burroughs, Poolman, Noah Juulsen and Brady Keeper. They might be ready to give Jett Woo some ice time too and Dermott can play RD as well, but if you’re willing to take a 1st Round Pick + a Good Prospect, we’d love to have JT Miller

Are you interested in Milan Lucic at all!?

15 Jul 2022 23:10:25
Good points BumbleBee.

15 Jul 2022 23:46:29
@TrevorA The Canucks tied with Seattle for the 2nd worst penalty kill in the league last year at just 74.89% Pretty sure Myers was 2nd pairing on a team that need to upgrade on defense.

Myers is a cap dump.

16 Jul 2022 03:04:21
Okay, yes it was 100% solely Myers fault. C’mon Man!

Calgary needs help at RD. Hope they do something about it.

16 Jul 2022 04:08:58
Getting a RD from a team that needs even more help at RD isn't the solution.

16 Jul 2022 05:17:55
UFA RD Anton Stralman could be a possibility. He's good defensively and on the PK. If he doesn't want too much money he might be just the right guy to fill in for Tanev until he's ready to play again.

If so the Flames should be able to sign all their RFAs plus Stralman, Neiderreiter and Stastny. Neiderreiter is still young enough to offer him 3-6 years.

All three should be really good fits on a Sutter team.

16 Jul 2022 15:23:18
Stralman is old (36 on August) and Small but I wouldn’t be opposed if he signed for $1-1.75mil/ yr.

16 Jul 2022 16:22:31
The perfect backup for Tanev. When one gets hurt the other should be good to go. It'd be great if he'll sign that cheaply but I have no idea what he might be looking for.

16 Jul 2022 20:04:13
I agree, I created a search for 6ft+ and 210ft+ RD's, so Stralman wasn't on my radar

As a comparable, 35.5 yr old Justin Braun just signed for $1mil with $750k in Potential Performance Bonuses (GP+TOI), Cap Hit is just $1mil/ yr.

16 Jul 2022 20:12:46
Niederreiter will likely sign a 1yr prove it deal for $2.85-$3mil, but I wouldn't sign him for more than 3-4 years at $3.25-$3.5mil, maybe $15mil/ 4rd = $3.75mil MAX. He has consistency issues and will likely only produce 0.40-0.60PPG with 3rd Line Minutes, but he does have an Accurate Shot and Great Size.

@MoxNix. What’s your opinion on Sami Vatanen and would he come back for a PTO or league minimum?

He had a good year in Finland and at the World Championships and can Kill Penalties as well, he’s just Small and not very Physical, but does Block Shots.

17 Jul 2022 04:55:46
I'd definitely pass on Vatanen.

He's missed a lot of games over the years. In fact the two years he played the most games he only played in 71 games. A lot of those years he had under 50 GP. Didn't even play in the NHL at all in 21-22. The year before that he played 39 games for two different teams and only got 6 points.

17 Jul 2022 05:08:43
Stralman really only popped up on my radar a few days ago. I've done a little more research on him since and I like him even better now.

From what I read I guess he'd jump at the chance to sign with a team like Calgary for 1 year at or near league minimum.

17 Jul 2022 05:26:22
UFA Michael Raffl would be a nice pickup for the bottom 6 too. Dallas has made an offer to resign him but he hasn't accepted it yet.

It was Raffle's head Tkachuk injured his hand on. In the playoffs he led the Stars in hits by a wide margin. He's the one who took Tanev out too.

17 Jul 2022 06:39:01
Interesting find, his Giveaway/ Take Away Ratio and Shot% are good, but CGY already signed Rooney and Lewis and might be stuck with Lucic + Raffl is old and looks to be on the decline, so I’d pass on him. He’d just be taking a spot from Ruzicka, Pelletier, Duehr or Phillips

@MoxNix - Just realized I’m starting to use the same abbreviations and write like you lol FML ?.
