If CGY doesn't sign Kadri or Trade for Patrick Kane, but sign Stastny, Niederreiter, PK Subban + Anton Stralman:
WPG's Blake Wheeler + Logan Stanley FOR CGY's Dillon Dube + Oliver Kylington
WPG moves on from Wheeler & his Cap Space, Go Younger and secure a better Scoring 2LD. CGY needs a Top-6 Forward and prefer Size & Grit on their back end:
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Wheeler
Toffoli-Stastny-Mangiapane
Coleman-Backlund-Niederreiter
Rooney-Ruzicka-Lewis
Hanifin-Andersson
Zadorov-PK Subban
Stanley/Mackey-Stralman
CGY could shelter Stastny's minutes by playing Wheeler or Ruzicka at 2C and by bringing up Pelletier from time to time. This would also shelter Backlund's minutes & has him focus on his Defense role. MoxNix doesn't like Subban, but if he plays well, he can be traded for Picks/Prospects at the Deadline once Tanev is healthy OR they could move Zadorov to 3RD (Stanley + Zadorov = The Twin Towers) and insert Mackey or Valimaki at 2LD

Just to clarify, Stralman would move up to 2RD in place of Subban if Zadorov moved to 3RD to create The Twin Towers "Smash Them" Pairing.

Who else is going to take on a soon to be 36 year old with No Retention for more than that!? SJ had to retain 34% = $2.72mil and only received a 3rd RD Pick + 23 Yr Old Goalie Prospect with no NHL Experience. 26 yr old former 7th RD Prospect for Undrafted Lane Pederson was essentially a wash.

Marcus, my thoughts were you don’t need both Dillon and Stanley and Kylington would be an upgrade over your other younger LD’s that don’t appear to be ready.
If you acquired another RD and moved Schmidt to 2LD, then you probably don’t need Kylington, but CGY doesn’t really have an RD available or that they’d be willing to offer you.

Why would the Jets want another small, timid 3rd/ 4th left winger in Dube and a small bottom pairing left shot d-man in Kylington? If the Jets are going to move a point a game, all be it an overpaid player like Wheeler they can do it at the trade deadline, even if they have to eat some money for the last year of his contract. Also the Jets shouldn't trade a big, physical d-man like Stanley for either player mentioned in this post. If these 2 Flames are so great then why are they often brought up in trade postings?

I don’t think you know Dube or Kylington very well but to answer your question, it comes down to CGY’s needs and direction. Sutter likes Big D-Men and Physicality
CGY is in win now mode whereas WPG should be looking to get Younger to hopefully be a contender again in 2-3 years, which btw is the only way WPG has a chance of re-signing PLD. Holding on to Wheeler takes up a roster spot that could be used to develop & improve his future replacement
Kylington had a Breakout Season with 9G/ 0.42PPG/ +34 and Dube is currently on the same trajectory as Mangiapane, improving each year (18G/ 0.41PPG with just 12:50TOI)
I’m offering a Young & Fast Top-4 D-Man who would be WPG’s 2nd Best D-Man to Morrissey and Dube would be a Top-6 Forward on the Jets who should put up 20-25G & 40-50PTS with 18:00TOI/ 82GP and could take off from there.
Let me know if you’d prefer Toffoli or Lucic instead, but CGY has lots of Left Shot Wingers & Defensemen (Tkachuk, Toffoli, Monahan, Ruzicka, Pelletier, & Mangiapane and Hanifin, Kylington, Zadorov, Mackey & Valimaki) so we can afford to give up Dube & Kylington for a couple years of Old Man Wheeler, as long as we get Logan Stanley as well
You already have a Big LD in Brendan Dillon and Stanley isn’t going to get any better unless he gets more TOI. If you think Stanley is => than Dube or Kylington, I would have to say you’re wrong
The more I write the more I’m talking myself out of this offer lol. If you can find another RD to move Schmidt to 2/ 3LD, you probably don’t need Kylington, but CGY doesn’t have one to offer and I believe WPG is rushing Heinola who needs more time to bulk up and develop
If you would prefer another Finnish Player or Picks, we could offer Valimaki or make that happen and will simply move Kylington out elsewhere. Kyli’s talented, but he’s too small for my liking and lacks physicality

@Lukowich, IT SUCKS, Johnny played us all, Thanks for digging it in lol, but Johnny Hockey was 1/ 23 of our Team. He had a Great Year because he was on a Great Team
Gaudreau was an Amazing Puck Handler & Playmaker, so that’s what I’m looking to replace. Flames are still a Very Good Team, but should go all out, as they have a small window of opportunity before it makes sense to tear down and rebuild. Treliving is trying to be smart instead of reactionary. We’ll see if pays off. Flames Fans are anxious to know how we adjust and move forward
We need a guy who can enter the zone with the puck, can draw opponents and pass to the open sniper. Options are Kadri (unlikely, he’ll probably re-sign with COL), Patrick Kane or Mitch Marner (expensive to acquire and pay) or gulp, Blake Wheeler, Jacob Voracek or Heaven Above Please Pray On Us Phil Kessel, Alex Kerfoot, Jakob Pelletier or Matthew Phillips ?.

The Flames will be better without the little guy.
They don't need a 100 point player to replace him. Especially not if it's another soft little guy. Replacing him with a big power forward who forechecks hits goes to the net and provides half the personal points would make the team better and leave some money for other players too.
