I'm hearing Matthew Tkachuk to FLA for Huberdeau + Weeger + Schwindt + 2025 1st Round Pick

My STL Trade would have been better but this isn't too bad at all. Great Work Treliving!

Agree20 Disagree15

23 Jul 2022 04:00:32
That's not bad.

23 Jul 2022 04:04:05
FLA’s 1st is Top-10 Protected and CGY sent a Conditional 4th with Tkachuk

Tkachuk Sogned @$9.5mil x 8yrs.

23 Jul 2022 04:08:32
Actually it isn't good. Huberdeau and Weegar are both UFA next summer Schwindt isn't a very good prospect and the pick is conditional.

Treliving messes up again!

23 Jul 2022 04:48:23
Meh, I’m confident we’ll re-sign one or both of them. Otherwise, hopefully Treliving learned his lesson and Trades them for even more assets than what Tkachuk could bring himself by the deadline

Huberdeau > Tkachuk and is the Filip Forsberg Type Player I was Hoping & Praying for

We’re better now than we were last season IMO. Gaudreau & Tkachuk weren’t going to lead us through the Playoffs, but Huberdeau might. Very Good Day!

23 Jul 2022 04:54:34
I feel bad for Flames fans. I think Calgary was on the cusp of going for the Cup. They were a much better team than what they showed against the Oilers. The return looks decent, until you realize that both Huberdeau and Weeger will be gone after thus season, more than likely.

23 Jul 2022 05:23:31
@Sosa Exactly!

I thought it was a decent return until I looked up contracts for the two roster players. The prospect isn't nearly good enough to make up for it. The pick is 3 years from now, likely to be a very late pick and lottery protected at that!

23 Jul 2022 06:15:37
Wow way different package than I thought. Huberdeau is a big time player, seems like a bad trade from a Florida perspective. Time will tell if it was good for Calgary or not I guess.

23 Jul 2022 14:24:21
I think it’s a good return considering CGY still has a solid roster and these players are in contract years, when the promise of a big payday is more than enough to turn a contract year into a career year. Otherwise your getting futures back when really the time is now. I’m sure this was the best possible deal, rival GMs throw anchors, not life jackets, as the old saying goes. CGY was not dealing from a position of strength, so I think your GM did great.

The upside is that you remain competitive and strengthen your roster. You also have a season to sell these players on life in CGY. The 1st is important too, and is only conditional that it’s lottery protected. Also, RFA’s bring a big haul at the trade deadline IF conditions warranted moving them.

Relax Flames fans, it’s been crappy losing 2 big players so close together, but from the outside looking in you have a solid GM making prudent moves. Go have a beer on a deck and look forward to training camp?.

23 Jul 2022 15:15:10
Obviously Huberdeau and Florida we’re far apart on contract talks. I feel like Atleast one of them resign. From a value standpoint Calgary did amazing here. From a Flordia pov I think it obvious that Huberdeau wanted to much.

23 Jul 2022 15:54:21
Gaudreau & Tkachuk did us a favor and this is truly a blessing in disguise

Treliving saved $21mil not signing them. FLA realised they couldn't afford to sign both, so elected to give an 8 year contract to the younger Tkachuk. If anybody deserves a $9.5-10.5mil x 8 year contract it's Huberdeau, so I bet Tre tries to lock him up right away. If Weegar continues his success, he'll cost around $6-6.5mil/yr to re-sign

CGY can now sign Mang long-term @$6mil/yr, Trade Kylington for Colton Sissons and maybe Hanifin+ for Chychrun and have a competition for 1RW between Mang & Toffoli or bring in Kessel for super cheap

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Kessel
Toffoli-Stastny/Ruzicka-Mangiapane
Dube-Backlund-Coleman
Pelletier/Lucic-Rooney-Sissons/Lewis/Duehr

Chychrun-Andersson
Weegar-Stralman/Tanev
Zadorov-Subban/M.Stone

They can Trade Kessel & one of Stralman or Subban for even more assets at the Deadline, as they would all do well in CGY. I'm also interested in J.Larsson, D.Brassard, D.Heinen, T.Motte or Z.Aston-Reese for the 4LW position instead of Lucic

23 Jul 2022 16:15:36
Crazy trade! I guess Florida couldn’t get Hubby to sign an extension. If Calgary can it’s a huge win for them. Otherwise idk, I feel like his value as a UFA is pretty close to Miller which means they likely won’t get the big prospect/ young player that they could’ve out of Tkachuk.

23 Jul 2022 16:19:17
Florida why??

Huberdeau is as good if not better than Johnny hockey.
Huberdeau was willing and did play lower in lineup to make Florida a 4 line team when there offence wasn’t sputtering. Due to this verhaeghe playing on average 5 minutes a game with Huberdeau had a career breakout year. With Bennett he was ok but Huberdeau really got verhaeghe to a while mother level.
With barkov 2/3rd of the game he helped him get 39 goals in 67 games. When barkov was hurt flirida never missed a beat because Huberdeau put Florida’s offence and PP on his back like Johnny hockey did for Calgary.

Tkachuk won’t play anything less than top 6 minutes and 1st PP. he actually bitched when it happened. Tkachuk doesn’t make players he feeds very well off players. When put with a superstar he shows he can up his game but with ok players he plays to there level. Barkov and tkachuk may be a deadly combo but will tkachuk get barkov to 40 and will tkachuk get to 40 since barkov isn’t in the same stratosphere as Huberdeau or Johnny hockey when talkin playmaking.
If tkachuk gets split from barkov can reinhart get tkachuk the puck. Eichel says no so how would tkachuk say any differant. Can tkachuk play with Bennett. Come on Calgary fans you know the truth. These 2 hated one another.
I guess the saving grace for Florida is tkachuk has his US under 17 and 18 program center back in Colin white. Maybe the best under the radar signing of the off season. Was white the deciding factor in tkachuk going to Florida. These American are basketball like and live playing with their friends and white is a friend of the family. When Calgary was in playoffs you saw mommy and daddy tkachuk. You saw Brady with either his or Matt’s girlfriend and I ask you who was that nice dressed fella beside the girl. Oh wait it was Colin White…

If white and tkachuk find magic together and Bennett and tkachuk don’t implode during practice then this might work out, if those variables don’t come true then Huberdeau will be a huge loss

Oh wait Calgary got weegar as well. A hard nosed hard working right handed dman who plays either side of D. He creates better when on left side but plays defence better from the right. He was ekblads left side D partner when ekblad was healthy, he let ekblad do whatever as ekblad knew weegar had his back. Away from ekblad he played the right side with Gudas and this is where weegar showed he had offence to his game. The 2 while only getting 15 or so games together became the bash brothers. He also
was the 2nd PP unit quarterback and the main penelty killing dman. He also played 4th line wing when team was down wingers and in a pinch. Losing weegar may be even a bigger hit to Florida than Huberdeau. Florida’s D looks weaker after this trade and there offence on paper looks unchanged but on the ice you’ll all see Huberdeau is the glue that held floridas offence together.

Throw in hard working Joel Otto/jim peplinski type of player in Colin scheindt. A product of Kitchener minor hockey from bresleau. I got a up close
look at this kid as a kid and boy what a steal calgary got here. He was not the biggest or fastest or even close to the most skilled but yesr after yesr he kept improving while never losing his work ethic. 3 years with Mississauga in OHL and each year improving. Last year in AHL got 40 points while playing great 2 way hard nosed hockey. This kid will become a fan favourite once he cracks the flames roster. He will be a 3rd line energy shutdown winger who is calgarys brand of hockey through and through

Oh wait there’s more. Calgary got a 2025 1st rounder and although it is top 10 protected it could be a 2026 unprotected 1st rounder. With tkachuk barkov verhaeghe and ekblad still signed up to it past this timeline I’m sure it will be a 2025 low 20s type pick. Hey that’s not bad

Overall calgary replaced Johnny hockey while upgrading their D with a top 4 dman who plays either side and is right handed and improve their future With a projected 3rd line grinder with leadership and a 1st rounder. If a guy like Pelletier can take his point a game AHL year in his first go around and turn it into a 40 point nhl rookie season or better yet breaks out to compete for rookie of the year along with Zary the 2 could make fans forget tkachuks name. Add in Calgary utilizing Huberdeau like Florida did and dube may just have a verhaeghe type breakout season and now tkachuks offence has been replaced.

As for Florida they knew what they had in Huberdeau and weegar. Tkachuk is unknown. Will tkachuk be the get a huge contract motivated 2021-22 version or will he go back to the Whiney 2020-21 locked into yesr 2 of 3 of contract motivated version. He got his money now what?!
Huberdeau is what you see. He signed a bridge deal after 2 full years then instead of banking on himself he signed a 6 year team friendly deal a year before his bridge deal was up, he could of waited since he just had a breakout season but wanted to be focused on the game not what he can make. A a freak lower body injury against jersey and 51 games later he made his comeback. He did well considering as he basically played on adrenaline. The next year he had an up and down season trying to live up to his new deal. Then 2018-19 and beyond he hadn’t looked back playing up to and acceding that contract playing like a 10 plus million player ever since not his 5.9

Calgary gains 9.1 in cap for 2 big time players while tkachuk is 9.5.

We won’t know who wins this deal long term as Huberdeau and weegar could leave after 1 year and tkachuk is locked in for 8. But short term I take Calgary this year and would bet everything in it

Calgary well played

If Huberdeau will continue to perform like he has the past 4 Seasons (346PTS in 286GP = 1.21PPG), I'd be fine with giving him an $11mil x 8yr contract or 11.64 x 7yrs, similar to Panerin or Matthews.

23 Jul 2022 20:20:29
11 million would be way too much. 8 mil sure get it signed ASAP, 9 mil probably. 9.5 mil for 6 years would be better for the team. Any more than that and they'd be better off flipping Huberdeau.

Weegar I like to see at 6 mil for 8 years, 6.5 mil for 6 years or 6.25 for 7 years.

23 Jul 2022 21:46:10
Holy crap that’s a long post!

24 Jul 2022 00:43:03
Huberdeau had the Most Assists and was the 3rd Best Overall Scorer based on PPG this Season @1.44PPG. Only McDavid @1.54PPG (12.5mil/ yr) and Matthews @1.45PPG (11.64mil/ yr) were Higher

SuperStar Players like this will Demand $11mil+ x 7-8 Years and they'll get it

Gaudreau got $9.75milx7yrs and very likely will never put up 1.40PPG ever again.

24 Jul 2022 05:11:01
He'll be 30 years old by the time an extension kicks in. He will not get 11M/ year from anyone.

24 Jul 2022 16:25:20
11.0m @ 7-8 Years? Yeah nah bruh, he'd most likely command somewhere around 9.0-9.5 @ 5-6 Years.

24 Jul 2022 16:59:34
You’d think it’d be more than Tkachuk’s $9.5, but hopefully it’s in line with he and Gaudreau at $9.5-10mil x 6-7yrs. Huberdeau is better than both of them IMO.

24 Jul 2022 20:17:25
A 30 year old (Huberdeau will be 30 next year) offensive winger isn't worth as much as a 24 year old two way winger who provides a whole lot more than just points. Especially not on a long term contract, one would be 38 when an 8 year extension expires, the other will only be 32.

25 Jul 2022 03:29:40
LOL Casual said the same thing I said. He gets Agrees and I get Disagrees. Says a lot about many of the poster here.
