CGY Trades: $2.4-2.8mil
D-Oliver Kylington @Signing Rights
2024-4th Round Pick-CGY

TOR Trades: $8.3125
LD-Jake Muzzin 50% ret=@2.8125/UFA24
LW/C-Alex Kerfoot @3.5/UFA2023
RD-Justin Holl @2/UFA2023

Flames are in Win Now mode and I think these 3 Players have tons to offer and if successful, might stay. Kyli would be a great partner to fellow Swede Liljegren

CGY:
Kerfoot-Backlund-Coleman
Weegar-Holl
Muzzin-Zadorov
TOR:
Kylington-Liljegren
Sandin-Giordano/PK Subban

If TOR doesn't want to retain on Muzzin, they have to take Monahan and get no Pick. Would be interesting when Tanev returns as to who sits or goes. Muzzin's TOI can be sheltered + he's still a Good D-Man and Playoff Performer.

makes no sense for Calgary...They're fine on D, why would they wanna get more expensive and older on the blueline when there is no reason for it

That looks like a pinball trade. Great for the Leafs, terrible for Calgary.

Holl >= Gudbranson @50% Cost
Muzzin > Kylington @50% Ret. = Same Cost
Kerfoot = Expensive but > Jarnkrok

Don't mind Older More Experienced D-Men, want the Forward Group to be Young. Holl & Muzzin bring excellent Size & all of them are Penalty Kill Specialists. Kerfoot is Smart and a Very Good Passer

Barrie, Marner, Holl, Muzzin & Kerfoot are Extremely Undervalued on this Sight.

Gudbranson >> Holl
Muzzin = Was good once but washed up declining fast and injury prone now
Kerfoot = overpaid, too small and soft

Older experienced defensemen are fine as long as they're still good and there aren't too many of them. Calgary already has Tanev and Weegar trading for Muzzin be a huge mistake.

C’Mon @MoxNix

Holl > Gudbranson, especially @$2mil vs $4mil

Muzzin had an off year and had issues with concussions, otherwise he is a 0.50PPG + a Defensively Strong and Physical D-Man. He had a Great Playoffs. If he gets injured, we have a Ton of Depth at LD to cover him and I’m proposing bringing him in @50% retained = just $2.8mil. I’m also suggesting sheltering him with 3LD mins

Kerfoot is better than you give him credit for and todays game is about Skill & Speed more so than Size. He’s a Very Good Two-Way Forward and Penalty Killer. Backlund, Coleman, Dube, Mang & Toffoli need a Play Maker to set them up. Not everyone can play on Hunderdeau’s line and Kerfoot is far more Experienced than our only other options ATM = Pelletier & Phillips

How many years do you think we’d keep Kylington 2-4!? This Trade fills 3 Needs and gives us at least 4 years of play combined. Might be able to Trade Hanifin for a Young Star Forward if Weegar, Zadorov, Muzzin and Mackey/ Valimaki step up and fill in well.

Holl is not better than Gudbranson. Let's get that narrative out of the way. Holl lacks any sort of foot speed, is softer than a tootsie role fruit cup on a hot summer day, and lacks a shot from the point. All he has going for him is he's a RHD. Gudbranson can hit, can shoot a lot harder than Holl, is more than willing to drop the mitts, makes a good first pass out of the zone. Is he overpaid at $4mill. absolutely. But so is Holl at $2mill.

Holl 9G+55A=64PTS/ 205GP = 0.31PPG 311Hits/ 1.52HPG 279BLKSH/ 1.26BSPG

Guds 27G+67A=94PTS/ 641GP = 0.15PPG 1475Hits/ 2.3HPG 767BLKSH/ 1.20BSPG

Holl (+/ -=) +43 @$2mil/ yr vs. Gudbranson (+/ -=) -87 @$4mil/ yr

For a Predominantly Defensive D-Man, Holl is the Better Scorer. So what he doesn't Throw as many Hits or get in as many Fights, I'd rather have Holl who can contribute Offensively and he's also Better Defensively. Same Age, but substantially less Wear & Tear on Holl also.

You're completely discounting the value of having a guy on the roster nobody wants to fight with, go into the corners or to the net when he's on the ice. That's huge for protecting the skill players and defending your own zone.

Also Gudbranson was never really utilized properly until last year under Sutter. Other coaches kept trying to turn him into something he isn't instead of maximizing use of what he is.

Holl isn't bad but Gudbranson is better. Pay is another thing, Treliving messed up again there. He should have resigned Gudbranson for 2.5-3 mil/ year before other teams could even talk to him far less make him an offer.
