Mtl- anderson-edmundson 50%retain

Cgy- weegar-wolf

Answering the rumors that weegar avaiable and the interest in anderson
Flame get more competitive this year without giving away too much future

Get the gritty/scoring player that flames are looking for,an cheap replacement for weegar with edmundson at 1.75

Habs get an solid rhd to play with ghule and get the prospect goalie that they are looking for

That's pretty awful for Calgary. Weegar's contract and cap hit may not be great, but replacing that contact with Anderson's awful contract is pointless. They're getting a much worse player with a much worse contract.

Maybe if you retained 50% on Anderson so his cap hit fits his level of play? But I can't see Montreal retaining that much for that long.

I don't think it will be as easy to dump Anderson as Montreal fans think. They'll need to take back equal or close to equal bad contacts in term and dollars.

yeah no, Weegar >> Anderson by a lot and no shot flames will trade Wolf. I wanna understand your logic on how the flames add to Weegar.

Also the Weegar Rumours were false

MTL asks “would you also like fries with that? Can we cut your lawn all summer too? ”

HUGE no from MTL.

Habs have no need for Weeger . I'd be interested in something involving Wolf, as i don't see a potential true number 1 in the system .

@Chickenfoot are you trolling? There's no way in hell MTL says no to that, a #2-3 Defensemen and a future starting goaltender for Anderson and Edmundson?

19 Feb 2023 12:35:30
CASUAL: definitely not trolling.

- Weegar is 29…why would a rebuilding team take on a 29 year-old?

- CGY is constantly rumoured to be after Anderson, who isn’t being shopped.

- IF MTL were to trade Edmundson & Anderson you’d get more trading them separately, but this isn’t close.

- taking back Weegar’s contract + retaining 50% of Edmundson’s deal, which is this year AND next?

- essentially this comes down to Edmundson & Anderson for Wolf. I can’t believe you don’t that this is a great fit for CGY & a HUGE overpay by MTL.

I’m surprised you don’t see it from both sides Casual, I really am.

I just think trading away Weegar would be a huge mistake, i was thinking value wise not need wise for MTL. MTL could easily flip Weegar to a contender and hit the lotto imo. I'm kinda pulling a JFresh but Weegar i would not trade Weegar if i was CGY, Hanifin would be the first to go if it were up to me.

I see from time to time someone suggest an asset that a team doesn’t need, but could get value from.

It doesn’t work like that. That’s a 3-team deal, or it’s a deal offered as a salary take back to facilitate a larger part of a deal.

Weegar is a very good D, he just doesn’t fit MTL’s needs as a bottoming-out/ rebuilding team. Wolf may well turn out to be a great NHL goalie, but goalies are hard to forecast/ project.

For a trade proposal to work it has to make sense for both teams. I see the fit for CGY, but I don’t see one for MTL.

Doesn't make sense for Montreal. Weegar is 29, he`s having a very weak season and his value is at an all-time low, especially considering that he gets an 8 year, 6.25M AAV extension.

I'm sure his stats don't really reflect his play, but right now David Savard is outproducing him offensively, and that extension looks a reaaally big anchor.

Montreal wants to get younger and not anchor themselves with long and pricey contracted players who will be past their prime when the team starts being productive.

I could see MTL wanting Wolf, though, his play in the ahl has been very solid and he looks like a good goalie prospect. But development for goalies can be quite unpredictable so, I'm not sure they'd want to pay a high price for him.

@NotACasual
Correction: On Mtl, Weegar would not be a 2-3 d, he would instantly become their #1, with no close second.

@Matador12
AMEN to your statement: “Montreal wants to get younger and not anchor themselves with long and pricey contracted players who will be past their prime when the team starts being productive.”
HOWEVER, if we can believe for even a second that Mtl isn’t shopping Anderson (poster boy for above description) and will actually keep him, then we can also infer that Hughes thinks (or hopes) that they can actually contend very soon. After all, it looks like they will sign home-town boy Dubois next year (like Leafs signed loyal Tavares for 11m/yr….).
I know it’s pure speculation, but if the above hypothesis is even remotely true, then a chance to acquire Weegar (same age as Anderson) would seem to be extremely attractive to them.
Besides needing some of their young forwards and d-men to prove themselves, all Habs would need next year is a #1 goalie…..

Wolf’s numbers in junior and the AHL were and are absolutely dominant. As a prospect, his legitimate upside is franchise goalie.
Don’t take it from me, read the scouting reports for yourselves. And there are plenty of NHL precedents (Saros, Hasek, Cujo, etc) proving that size isn’t the issue everyone makes it out to be.
Having said all that, it would be difficult to see Wolf included in a trade for Meier signed long term, never mind in any deal for Anderson.
