3 way trade proposal.

Chicago Trades
Slaggert (Big-10)

San Jose Trades
Karlsson*

*SJ retains 50% of Karlsson's remaining contract.

Than

San Jose Trades
Bonino

Toronto Trades
Kerfoot
Liljegren
NRobertson (LTIR)
Voit (OHL)
1st Round Pick 2023

Than

Chicago Trades
Karlsson*

Toronto Trades
4th Round Pick 2024
2nd Round Pick 2025

*Chicago retains 25% of Karlsson's remaining contract.

Considering Karlsson has a few years remaining on his contract Toronto would have to add a 2nd Rounder to Chicago.

Kerfoot would be flipped to a contender for something as well so he approves the trade.

Pinball: You reposted the same mess below by substituting “Slaggert” for “Frk”, and without clarifying which parts go where?

Homer Trade?
What players go where?

Chicago and SJ are trying to get The #1 Pick and Connor Bedard, SJ gets worse but gets future's with this proposal and Chicago gets more Picks (the future) with just having to pick up a little under 3 million.

SJ gets Slaggert, Kerfoot, Liljegren, NRobertson, Voit and a 1st Round Pick 2023

Chicago gets a 4th Round Pick 2024, and a 2nd Round Pick 2025

Toronto gets Karlsson and Bonino.

Hope that explains everything as this might be too complicated for you.

Cheers.

It’s too late to pretend you are smart and everyone else is not. The proof is in everything you write. I’m embarrassed for you. Even the leaf die-hard fans on the leaf trade page ridicule your trade proposals.

That last post of yours really clears EVERYTHING up. What a tire fire…

Btw, nice D and goaltending tonight. I’ve been saying forever you need help in net and on D, but what do I and the rest of the hockey world know that you don’t? ?. I guess you’ll understand after this years round 1 flameout. ?.

Samsonov had an off night game, Goaltending isn't the problem imo.
Your view is just that, bet you didn't think ROR was going to be traded to Toronto, if I remember right Dubas wasn't allowed to trade draft picks again your supposed knowledge.
Wrong again, you are constantly wrong with what you think will happen.
Again by the end of the trade deadline this Leaf Team will be even better than today, unless key players get injured of course.
If not Karlsson there will be a Top Defenceman on The Leafs soon, plus probably more.
Can't wait to point that out for you.

20 Feb 2023 08:45:45
It was Dubas himself who said he wasn’t trading a 1st for a rental.

Two days later he traded a 1st for a rental. (But he didn’t panic or mortgage his team’s future like all the other times…THIS time is different. )

You are the only leaf fan I know that isn’t concerned about your goaltending and D. I guess we’ll all see how that works in the 1st round eh? ?

I also can’t wait to see how your “genius” Dubas can manage to add Karlsson and his 11.5M salary x 4 more seasons after this. (That would leave you over the cap next year with 14 players signed…so I can’t wait to see what kind of “Dubas telethon fundraiser proposal” you have planned for the rest of the league to help the genius make all your perfectly sane hockey dreams come through ?

Karlsson gets retained by both SJ and Chicago it's a 2.875 million each year of his remaining contract in my proposal, so yes they can fit him in easily.
Again let's see what happens by the deadline.

20 Feb 2023 13:03:53
I guess I could see it, but with that much retention, I'm pretty sure SJ would want more. Their 50% retention would mean that they would have close to 6M in dead cap for the next four years and GM's generally don't like that. Frankly, looking at Toronto's prospect pool and remaining draft picks, there's not a whole lot that is enticing for them to get top players this deadline, since they already traded a few pieces away for O'Reilly.

For that much retention, I'm sure teams can come up with better value for Karlsson.

With your proposal, SJ is getting a B- Prospect in Slaggert, a 3rd line center on an expiring deal, a youngish 3rd pair d-man that maybe has 2nd pair potential, an undersized injury-prone prospect that has good offensive potential, another young B prospect in Voit and a late 1st round pick for a 5.75M AAV Karlsson.

If I'm SJ, I'm telling Dubas, lower the salary retention or add something more

I think to many on here both over and undervalue actual trades, how many really thought ROR and Acciari would have cost The Leafs more?
I bet almost everyone, SJ yes have the next 4 seasons having to retain Karlsson's contract, but isn't half of his contract not better than 11.5 million and you have some young key places to start your rebuild?
You have to look at it from every angle.
For Toronto once they made that trade with The Blues it wouldn't make sense not to get someone like Karlsson, think like Dubas wouldn't Karlsson not make a huge difference in the upcoming playoffs?

20 Feb 2023 16:18:18
I’m just going to say this. Toronto must get a goalie and shut down defenceman or they ain’t getting past the first round against Tampa. Especially if they are going with Murray and Samsonov.

20 Feb 2023 19:46:23
@Pinball 6M in dead cap is worth a lot. Money is worth as much as you can get from it and if SJ can find a deal where they get less but retain less they would probably take it.
There’s plenty of other hefty contracts out there that could be returned with great pieces (Lucic, Nurse, etc)

Personally I would love to see my sens trade back for Karlsson (at around 7-8M) with an offer of Zaitsev (expiring), 1st in 2024, Ostapchuk and JBD.

20 Feb 2023 21:05:14
Everyone needs a reality check here.
At first, it seemed a Karlsson trade might be possible, but the reality is that his contract is virtually untradeable.
Any contender will almost certainly need FOUR years of 3-5m in salary retention. While not impossible, it’s never happened in the history of the NHL. What owner would be ok with that? What would it cost the buying team?
Look what Toronto had to give up for O’reilly rental because of the retention.
For ONE year.
If EK is still playing well two years from now, then maybe it happens.

I’m a leafs fan and I have zero concern for Goaltending and relatively little concern for defence and I’ll elaborate on that.

Goaltending- Samsonov has been playing very well throughout the year as a whole. I don’t think that is deniable. He is just as good as Andersen and Campbell were in playoffs and they played good enough to win. Yes they were used as Scapegoats for 1st round exits but the reality is it was not there fault. Murray is debatably the best playoff goalie in the league currently he is only 27 and has 2 cups. I could fully see him getting hot in playoffs because any goalie can be terrible in regular season then turn into a brick wall come playoff time. Woll is also a top 5 goalie in the AHL. Regardless the goaltending is set and they aren’t getting another one.

Defence- The defence is the leafs deepest aspect. There isn’t a superstar but Rielly is a top
32 dman in NHL. Which means he’s a true number 1. Girodano is still top 4 dman aswell as Brodie. Lilijgren is looking solid in a top 4 spot, Sandin actually looks really good this season he is a really good 3rd pairing guy who can fill when there is injuries and can develop as a consistent top 4 guy and Holl is actually solid as a 6th dman. He’s the leafs best PKer.

Honestly I think the leafs are set in those aspects and I’d personally like to see P Kane as the leafs next add.

Karlsson has been there and done it in Ottawa, better chance winning with Toronto so don't see him waiving his NMC for Ottawa imo.
