Ok, here we go.

Mtl: Josh Anderson

Cgy: 2023 1st, Jeremie Poirier

Before there is any projectile pants filling by the detractors, please research Poirier as a prospect.
This trade would fit the pattern displayed last year by Hughes: "No, we don't want to trade Lehkonen." Then he is traded for a prospect and a 2nd.
Yes, Anderson and Lehkonen are different players, and we can debate Barron vs Poirier, but Flames' 1st this year is worth much more than Avs' 2nd last year.

Seen Barron and Perorie play both and actually played against Barron a lot being the same age from the Maretimes and I’ll say Barron is much better.

I like your humour and the sentiment, and for putting forward something that’s a conversation starter rather than just nonsense.

Personally, and respectfully, I’d rather have Anderson. He’s just my kind of player. A big man with speed and pop is a great guy to play the game with. If you’ve played you know what I mean. If you haven’t, you can probably find someone you’d like more on a stats sheet.

There’s a reason Tre and the Jolly Rancher want him. Anderson is a rare combo. To get a guy who isn’t on the market you have to overpay. I guess we’ll see how interested Tre and Hughes are in finding an agreeable fit?.

Without hefty retention or taking back close to equal bad contracts/ cap dumps in term and dollars, it will be hard to move Anderson. He's not a rental.

Without any of the above Anderson is a negative value piece.

If im Hughes, I'd listen if Wolf is in this conversation, with other peices as well.
As Chickenfoot said, your gonna have to overpay, and there aren't many like Anderson out there. So if im Hughes, the ask would be ridiculously high, so high that the opposing GM wouldn't sleep for months worrying about what he actually gave up.

Agreed, Anderson has some of the best hockey attributes, and is in demand.

But, if I’m Treliving, I would rather chew tin foil than trade Wolf.
Wolf’s numbers in junior and so far in the AHL are nothing short of preeminent, and his ceiling is legitimately as a franchise net-minder. A top three NHL goalie prospect, depending who you read.
The Flames are rightly committed to letting him marinate in the minors, but if they don’t start getting the saves they need from Markstrom, we may see him sooner than later.

And, meant to add this question:
At what point does the GM of a rebuilding team recognize the need to take what he can actually get for a 29 yr old winger, no matter who the player is? He can ask for the earth, but is that the market?

Maybe there are other motivations here, such as Anderson as a baby-sitter, sorry, mentor for the kids (how long will he put up with that? ), or, the hope that they will contend next year. Some of the kids have a ways to go, there are other vets they would like to jettison, and they need a goalie.
It’s a bit of a conundrum the Habs seem to be in, trying to figure out how soon they will contend. There are rumours of a Dubois signing next year (what will that cost? ), and yet, when Weegar was suggested in an earlier post, the response was “He doesn’t make sense for Mtl, ” despite being the same age as Anderson. Confusing.

Chickenfoot, you probably summed it up best, Hughes is just trying to do his best for his team. I get that, but ultimately, the market will, and should, decide a player’s worth in a trade, despite any superfluous posturing.

I really like what the Habs have in Anderson, so I’m not inclined to trade him. I like what he is on the ice and off, and I’m more keen on keeping him.

As mentioned, goalies are hard to project, and Wolf as part of a deal or not doesn’t matter either way to me. (That isn’t to be interpreted as disrespectful to the young man either. )

As for the comparison to Weegar, there isn’t one for me. For reasons mentioned earlier Anderson’s combo is much more unique, and he’s a year and a half younger than Weegar. Weegar has his positives too, and I think CGY would be wise to keep him.

No question CGY wants Anderson, and he’d fit great in their system. But the only way I’d trade Anderson is for an overpay that couldn’t be refused. My guess is that fit is unlikely to be found this season, but who knows? Tre got Tofolli a little cheap from Hughes in my humble opinion. That can’t happen again.

I think Calgary will keep Weegar, for now, anyway. We’ll see what happens.

And not to nitpick, but Weegar and Anderson were both born in 1994, in January and May respectively.

BURNER: I appreciate the correction!

But given that Weegar is FIVE months older. (Just kidding)

: )
