Wild proposal that would work.

The Leafs would start by activating MMurray and sending down Woll to The AHL which gives Toronto exactly a 850.00 in Cap Space.

First they would trade NRobertson to Vancouver for Freeland, The Leafs than put Freeland on LTIR giving them a Cap Space of 2,650.000.

Than Toronto trades WNylander, Kampf and Holl to Detroit for Raymond and Perron, the Cap Space after that trade would be 7,437.366.

Than to end the deadline Vancouver sends JTMiller to The Leafs for a 1st Round Pick 2023 (Boston's Pick), and a 1st Round Pick 2024 with still 2,187.366 in Cap Space which will be used for Matthew Knies and any AHL callups needed for the rest of the season as only Cap matters after today not roster size.

So in the end players in and out on NHL rosters.

In - JTMiller, Raymond and Perron
Out - WNylander, Kampf and Holl

If Dubas wants to shake todays deadline this would definitely do that.

I think we may see Kerfoot and Rielly get dealt to Vancouver. Miller, Demko, and a pick coming back this way. Clears a lot of cap. Solidifies our forward group. Gives us another goalie option to work with. Last night Rielly played on the 3rd pairing. His play hasn't been that great as of late. The left side is in good shape still if they do deal him. He'd likely be open to heading home. Should be an interesting day regardless.

Rielly has a NTC in his contract, so he can't be traded to any team, Rielly and Tavares are the only 2 on Toronto that have a no trade clause in their contracts.

You don’t gain cap space by trading for someone on ltir.

That is super creative Pinball, kudos.

I also agree with moving someone like Nylander for non-perimeter players who can still score the kind of greasy playoff goals that come from battles in tough areas.

I’m also not big on Robertson, who is too small and fragile to be considered a top-end prospect by other franchises.

As I’ve said, if Dubas comes away with a solid goalie today, that would be solid work. Doesn’t even have to be one of the sexy big names. Varlamov could probably be had cheap, and his playoff numbers are solid.

Still, you put a lot of thought into this one, so kudos man?.

It will be interesting to see what does, and doesn’t happen. I tend to think it’s always the teams that make sneaky, under the radar trades, that tend to make the biggest difference. BOS made an awesome trade with the Orlov deal, and CAR hasn’t done much, but did some great work over the years to get to this point.

There will be some very, very good teams out in the first round. I’ve never seen the east so tight with quality teams. The playoffs will be exceptional this year!

Yes you do, know the Cap loopholes.

You can just go over the cap by whatever the LTIR number is. In your trade they would free up whatever Robertson makes.

If what you say is true Arizona would have like an extra 30M in cap with all the guys they have on LTIR. So they can magically spend 110M not including those guys? They can spend 82M and an extra 30M goes towards guys that don’t play. Leafs can ice 82M not 84M because they traded for a guy on LTIR.

PINBALL: Ebs is correct regarding LTIR this time of the year.
