Arizona will be looking at adding a player like Matthews for many reasons, gives them a name player who is from Arizona which brings lots of money in Jerseys and merchandise, as well as makes the team one will want to see on the road, plus he will right away make them better on the ice.

Matthews nearing that July 1 deadline of a NMC on an expiring contract means they could have him walk as a UFA and get nothing except Cap Space, Tavares did it to The Islanders signing with his hometown Leafs, and if anything you want make sure what you did isn't done to your team.

The Coyotes have abandoned the rebuild so many times over the years. They are finally committed to a full rebuild and this would sabotage that.

So a 25 year old Top Centre wouldn't be a positive rebuild move?
Strange way to look at what team's do in a rebuild.
Wonder if McDavid wouldn't be part of any rebuild in how you think.
If Matthews was 30 years old I get it but at 25 years old just hitting his prime, it would be a positive move for Arizona imo.

And who plays around Matthews. The Leafs have proven you need to have a team, not just one player. So the Coyotes are almost a playoff team next year, are they a threat to win the Stanley Cup in the near future? No. Still loading up for a real playoff run.

ARI has a plethora of great young prospects and picks. It's a numbers game and they have plenty of both, so they'll have a bunch that will "hit" and become bonafide players.

ARI is also a mess off the ice, and after last nights vote results in Tempe, they're off to Houston within a couple of years.

Matthews is a big talent, but if you're interested in building a winner, he isn't the guy. ARI passes. quickly and easily. on this.
