Toronto: Mitch Marner
Chicago: Seth Jones (50% Retained) + Toronto 1st Round Pick

6 yrs at almost 5 million retention. Not sure that is in the cards for Chicago.

Jones at no retention to a team that needs a top defenseman is better. Marner straight across for Jones is more realistic. Marner getting a raise. Chicago not retaining on a top defenseman. Hes paid appropriately. Marner paid appropriately until his raise.

Jones at 50% is worth way more than 1 year of marner at current price, then probably 12.5 for marner to keep him, so basically 16-17 million for one player? that's completely insane. Plus a 1st? I don't like to say mean things but your iq must be around 90.

I appreciate you assuming I have an IQ higher than what it actually is
I’m judging Marners value by trades posted on this site and others. Everyone seems to think that Tre will either get a massive haul or pennies on the dollar.
Personally I don’t see him or JT waiving their NMC.

I should clarify, for the most part i feel that the people posting on this site have a fairly decent grasp of the value on most players and post trades I see as fair value. In saying that, I’m yet to see a Marner trade that is fair value for both teams. So I thought I’d join in.

LMAC: it will be challenging to move Marner in a "hockey deal", even if he waives his NMC.
- At almost 11M for one season, it's a big hit for any team to take on.
- the ideal team for Marner is someone who needs regular season help to qualify for the playoffs.
- Marner is likely going to market as a UFA, as is every player's right. But he'll likely want a raise, and I'm not sure who is lining up to pay that kind of $ for what he brings to a room and in the playoffs.
- I think you're probably right that he doesn't move, but if he does waive, it will be for another team with another player on a high-dollar expiring contract.
