Are you saying Laine is a cap dump or do you really think Lunderstrom is worth a potential 40 goal guy and a 1st. This is awful. Laine would land a good pick even at his cap hit. A team like Chicago can take the risk because the reward could be huge.

@vbb I’m calling Laine a cap dump in this deal. Back to back 50pt seasons and then missed an entire season while making 8.7M for the next 2 seasons ain’t exactly a steal.

You called Mangiapane a cap dump, so why not Laine?
Laine makes 8.7M and registered 52Pts playing on the 1st Line and PP.
Mangiapane makes 5.8M and registered 40Pts playing on the 3rd Line.
- Both played for a defense-first system on bad teams
- Mangiapane is significantly better defensively
- Laine missed the entire season
- Laine requested a trade so they lost their leverage
Kevin Hayes was dumped with a 2nd, Mikheyev dumped with a 2nd and Walman dumped with a 2nd. It’s a huge risk for any team especially after missing the entire season with that cap hit.

NotACasual maybe take a look at the GP. He was near a PPG on a brutal blue jackets team and same as the year prior he was pacing for 82 PTS. Yes he has injury problems and has off ice issues but Mangiapane is no where’s near a healthy Laine. Are you really trying to say he is?
Like I said 2 years in a row pacing at or near a PPG, still young and completely healthy going into the season. That is the definition of a buy low. A team like Chicago would be stupid not to take him why wouldn’t they.

I’m not saying Mangiapane is as good as Laine but Laine carries a lot of risk that may scare off some teams. Jackets have everything working against them in a potential trade for Laine. Maybe they don’t have to pay for a team to take him but I just threw an idea out there.

They won’t have to pay for him. Like I said their is zero reason why Chicago or San Jose wouldn’t take the risk.

Well considering Chicago only has around $4mill in cap space they can't afford him without maybe giving up AA, but even still they'd have under a mill in cap space after the fact.
As for San Jose why add that contract when there is potentially going to be some big names available next year at free agency that they'd have a tonne of cap room to utilize.
Laine obviously could have a great year and he could also have a mediocre year or just not have a year at all. There's too many unknowns and $8.7mill on a player with that many unknowns just doesn't seem like a smart gamble to make.

Taking a guy that can score 40 is a no brainer for a team that can easily fit his cap for the next two years.

Laine isn’t worth a bag of pucks.
