*SJ will decide which of the four 3rd Round Picks in 2025 Toronto receives.
Once DeWar and Hakanpaa are activated Toronto will need to both get under the cap and be able to fit a full 23 man roster, Kunin gives them a better third line winger than NRobertson gives them.
SJ in a full rebuild will be making deals like this for their future and it's something I believe helps them more than keeping Kunin.

So the leafs get to dump 3 contracts worth 14M+ for a player that SJ resigned to a 1-year contract of 2.75M…and SJ is the team adding a sweetener?
Seriously?
A rebuilding team like SJ takea on bad contracts because they’re incentivized to do so with picks or prospects. They don’t do it to help teams who have mismanaged their cap.
This is intro hockey 101 kind of stuff. Even a casual fan would get why this is a one-sided trade that would never happen.

NRobertson and Liljegren are the sweetners, SJ have a ton of picks and prospects already going forward, adding 2 players like that is a positive move not what you paint it as.

Replace Kunin with Benning.
Now take out Robertson and Kampf.
Now you can see what an NHL trade looks like. If the Leafs had you for their GM they would have been fleeced by San Jose today.

In the man’s defense, you cannot make a leaf trade on a forum without absolutely being fleeced or else everyone would call you a delusional leaf fan and ask you to give your head a shake… come on, we have all been here.
