Why would NJ do that?

They are pretty solid on the right side of there D, are apparently calling about Evans and are much thinner on the left side.

Id rather keep Evans re signed at 5× 3.5, and Engstrom and the 1st.

Where are Beck, Hage and Kapanan gonna play. I love Evans but this crazy 25 game stretch he is on doesn't change who he is. 5yrs! I just don't see it. Sell high on him now and see what he is worth on the open market in the off season. If he gets more then 3 yes goodbye Jake, thx for some great yrs. Habs have the people to fill his shoes.

. 5 is a bit to much. I didnt really consider the kids you mentioned, all 3 should be more than capable of filling his shoes sooner than later, with Beck or Kappanen filling Dvoraks immediately. If he would sign for 3, that would be great.

The Habs aren't weak at LD, either on the big team or in prospects.
Hutson, Guhle & Xhekaj is a good NHL mix on LD, and they're all between the age of 20-23.
Engstrom has adjusted to the North American game, and Trudeau has been good for Laval as well.
With all the prospects and picks there will come a time to package some off. I don't see NJ trading Nemec, and MTL shouldn't want to part with Engstrom or the 1st. If Evans re-signs at a reasonable cap hit, great. If not, he's a valuable trade asset.

Nemec only plays on the right side.
