Toronto: 3rd overall
Arizona: Gardiner and 4th overall

This gives Arizona another building block moving forward and the ability to draft Marner where he can excel with his line mates Domi and Dvorak

Toronto gets their big #1 Centre in Strome. Toronto native and Toronto relieves cap as well.

Toronto: Semin, 5th overall

Carolina: Kessel, Finn and 24th overall

Toronto takes on negative value (Semin) at the advantage of drafting number 5 and taking Hanifin.

Carolina gets a top prolific scorer, a B+ defense prospect and a late first who they can use to draft another forward.

Toronto: Andrew Cogliano, 2015 1st (25-27?)
Anaheim: Dion Phaneuf and 2016 3rd

Toronto gets back a speedy middle 6 player and a late first pick in return for their captain and a 3rd round pick. This causes the leafs to give up their 2017 3rd round pick to DET. Say what you want, Phaneuf will not garner a return of a top prospect like Pullkkinen or Mantha. A late first and salary coming back is more reasonable.

Anaheim receives a much needed defenseman on the back end. Beauchemin is starting to slow down very fast and Anaheim needs a big physical defenseman on the back end with a boomer. Anaheim has enough cap to make this work.

Toronto: 2016 3rd

Minnesota: James Reimer

This gives Minny a back up plan in case they can't resign Dubnyk. Toronto replenishes their 3rd round pick back.

I'd put Gautier there instead of Carrick. Carrick is a mediocre AHL player to this point. Gautier was a first round pick and looked very good on the Canadian junior team. I like how he plays. His pesky line was one pretty productive in that tournament.

Quick edit - replace Booth with Connor Brown on the 3rd line

From the Leafs standpoint whether they draft Marner/Strome/Hanafin/Other they seem content (stated by management numerous times). Saying that, giving up an asset like Gardiner and moving up one position to guarantee one of the three players above doesn't make much asset management sense.

5th overall to the leafs is a pipe dream and with the quality of players from 3-5 it almost degrades the Arizona trade.

Everything else looked good to me.

Gauthier is a third liner at best in the nhl not worth it

Anaheim is smarter then that, They don't want or need Phaneuf. Minnesota does not need Reimer wow.

Don't see the point in moving up one spot when even if the guy they want gets taken, there are two other blue chip prospects, it's throwing gardener away in my perspective

Dubnyk, yes not resigned but will be, Backstrom and Kuemper aren't enough? And there all better than Riemer.

Montrealfinest that's what he was drafted for bud Gauthier is a face off specialist and a shutdown type player he was never drafted by the leafs to be a top 6 forward yes every team hopes that a player can develop into those types of players but you also need to draft role players as well and quite honestly if he keeps developing the way he has been he is going to be a very good 3-4 centre men in the league probably one of the top face offs guys with the ability to play the penalty kill
