Can someone please tell me why has Steve Stamkos not signed an extension to his contract yet? Could it be he wants to be the highest paid player in the NHL? Is he worth more than Toews? I don't think so! I think Steve Yzerman realizes he won't be able to resign him so you might see a trade to the Leafs as long as he signs that extension

Why would leafs do this type of trade right now one year into a rebuild its ridiculous getting rid of our future #1 D-Man and a definite top 2 pick in next years draft with a chance on Auston Matthews no deal for leafs let's continue the right way and it doesn't make sense since were finally starting to build right this deal is like taking 2 steps back

^you're delusional if you think the Shanahan/Hunter wouldn't personally walk with Rielly down the way to Tampa to take Stamkos back home.
Apart from that, those "bigger" deals take time. He will resign and does not want to leave TB. No, I haven't asked him, but srsly why would he? TB is build to win for years to come and we're able to pay him, while the Leafs rebuild and are a losing team for the next years. Plus, state taxes in FLA are waaaay better than in CAN

It was reported yesterday that negotiations haven't even started yet. Is there a chance he leaves? Of course there is. But if he leaves it's for reasons that are out of Tampa Bays control. They give him the best shot to win and will offer him as much as he wants and it all comes tax free. If he leaves it'll be for personal and family reasons which tampa can't do anything about.

Exactly. They haven't started talking because they played until June 15 or so. Then there was the draft. then FA. Stamkos was on vacation, Yzerman was watching the development camp.
It's a big decision for 91, he talks with his family/agent/etc first. Give them some time man.
