I mean we do need RHD but I think we could have gotten more. Not to mention we add a 2nd (hopefully the torts compensation not our 35th OA) but I just feel it's underwhelming.

The more I think about it, it might be a pretty even trade. Van adds a big dude on D (decent, tho never lived to true expectations), FLA adds forward help but also a 2nd which could be used to add a prospect of Gudbranson's type. Plus I guess this is supposedly suggesting that Matheson is stepping into the NHL next season for the Panthers. And in reading twitter, it's sounding like this was an analytics-based trade, which is interesting.

Gubdrandson is a good defenceman, but certainly a dissapointment when was selected in the top 3 i believe. Becomes 3rd defenceman for Vancouver (their roster rn)

McCann is a great prospect, personally i thought McCann>Gub

Sorry I meant 33rd*. I need to see more of Gudbrandon first. I wouldn't be to upset with a McCann for Gudbranson swap but add a 3rd instead and keep the 2nd,4th and 5ths off the deal. Why does Benning just love trading his 2nd round picks despite the fact that he's from a "scouting background"?

Every single year Benning has traded away a 2nd.
2014- a 2nd (Roland Mckeown) for Linden Vey
2015- a 2nd (Rassmus Andersson) for Sven Bärtschi
2016- a 2nd in the trade for Gudbranson
2016- a 2nd in the trade for Sutter
Dunno about that last one, but I think I'd like to have those other two back, 2 pretty good D prospects. Could be why our defensive prospects are lacking in quality.

I wanted the Oilers to take Petrovic in his draft year. That's looking like a bummer nowadays, he's looking like a great shutdown guy. I doubt FLA would be interested in Yak. Could see a decent D prospect trade for Yak out of CAR perhaps.

Honestly, I was surprised to see the Preds trade for a forward in this trade. But after thinking about it a bit I suppose they do have a few older players that could use replacing so I suppose I kinda get it. But to trade for Yak as well on top of it? I just don't know what they'd trade away for him that Edm would be ok with, unless it's a dump and a pick or prospect. Jokinen and a 3rd? I dunno. I see Yak going elsewhere.
