I don't think a 1st is enough for Jersey to downgrade at two positions.

If anything Zacha and Kerfoot are even if you look at the stats, I added Dermott because of the potential of Zacha even though he hasn't lived up to it as of now,
The biggest upgrade is Severson over Holl I agree, but even though Holl has started slowly he has been a pretty solid Defenceman over the last few seasons, add a 1st Round Pick to NJ, who is rebuilding that's the type of trade like The Devils look to make.

Yeah Pinball, points wise, Kerfoot and Zacha are basically equal, but Zacha is 3 years younger and RFA at the end of his contract while Kerfoot is overpaid now and UFA after next season. An easily obtainable 6/ 7 defenseman like Dermott doesn't close the gap at all.

While Severson is overrated, he's still a top 4 defenseman and 2 years younger. For me the gap between an older, meh bottom pairing defenseman like Holl and an established top 4 guy like Severson is more than a first. And Jersey fans value Severson more than I do.

Plus why does Jersey want to get older and take players with less team control when they aren't ready to challenge for anything?

Dermott is young and a 1st Round Pick is why, NJ has plenty of young Top 6 Forwards and Zacha is expendable because of that, Kerfoot is on a great Contract for the next few seasons and even rebuilding teams need a few older players to get better in the future.
We can agree to disagree and that's what debating is all about 👍.

Kerfoot is on a great contract. Especially for his defensive prowess.
