Sources connected to the Leafs the team has contacted the Devils about Simmonds and Vatanen.

The deal is centered around Leafs getting Simmonds and Vatanen who are both in the final year of their contract. In order for the money to work Cici Kapanen along with a mid level prospect would be main pieces.
The Devils originally asked for Sandin or Liljigren but the Leafs were a “hard no” on them two in the deal.

There’s a feeling the Leafs may try to get the Devils to include back up goalie Louis Domingue in the deal to shore up some needs.

The Leafs are in need of some toughness and home town kid Wayne Simmonds fits the bill perfectly. Leafs nation is hoping Dubas doesn’t shy away from the trigger as we creep closer to the deadline.

Leafs say no. Simmonds sucks. He is not worth Kapanen. Ceci + 3rd for Vatanen is more realistic.

No doubt the leafs want Simmonds and have kicked the tires but the leafs want players for nothing. Kap over Simmonds easily. The biggest need is a back up goalie right now. Best for is Casey demsith from the pens but that going to cost too.

Leafs don't have the Cap Space to make it work.
Ceci plus a Lower Prospect and or Pick for Vantanen sounds more like it, Simmonds makes 5m no way it works in the Cap NHL World.

NJ can retain salary to make things work and help get the pick or prospect they prefer. Just like retaining %50 of Hall.
