TB: Johnson, Sergachev
WPG: Roslovic, Niku

With Tampa strapped to the cap they need to dump salary. Johnson is an obvious choice however they may need to add Sergachev to sweeten the deal plus they probably would find it hard to afford him since he's an RFA. They get two young pieces back with small cap hits, Roslovic is an RFA but could be signed to a bridge deal. Jets get there 2C plus bolster their D. Win win for both teams.

If the Jets want to re-sign Sergachev and their remaining RFA's next year, they can't waste cap space on Johnson. The Jets would have to say no.

The trade would be great for the Jets but keep Johnson and trade a pick or a prospect instead.

So to "dump" a 40-50 pt player in Johnson, who's on a reasonable 5M contract, TB has to sweeten the deal with not a pick or so which would have been debatable already. No, they need to add a young emerging star D in Sergachev, who's a top 4 already and if you've seen him play (which you most likely haven't) very clearly will be a top pairing D very soon who's under team control for a while.

Winnipeg maybe want to dump Perrault? How about Perrault and Laine for Stephens and Jan Rutta? Seems fair to me, I mean WPG definitely has to "sweeten the pot" for TB to take on Perrault, so this would work by your logic, no?

@The_Triplets the Jets aren’t in cap trouble, the Lightening are. That’s why the value is off based on the additional cap hit the Jets are taking on.

Triplettes its all about the cap space and a flat cap for 3/ 4 years. Teams will have to trade players because they can't afford to sign them. Johnson is on a good contract money-wise but the length could turn into a millstone around any teams neck who take his contract on. So the Jets trading 2 young inexpensive RFA is what TB would want.
