Reports are saying that Jacob Markstrom has asked for a trade out of Vancouver, Jim Benning has said that he will try to make it happen but interested teams may need to move a guy out first, Toronto needs a backup so my guess is Markstrom will be a leaf before the end of the summer. what does Toronto trade for him though? any ideas on Markstroms value?

My stab at Markstroms value would be a 3/4 pick and a low tier prospect. He's young with lots of potential but hasn't proven he will ever achieve expectations.
Toronto trade, 4th pick 2015 and Devane.

To Edm: Gardiner, leivo, 8th overall
To Tor: Yakupov, 3rd overall
Edm gets a puck rushing defenceman Mac T has said he's looking for and bigger more physical scoring winger in leivo to replace Yak on the right side, improving their two way play and physical presence as well as maintaining a top 10 pick to select another good defenceman like fleury. Toronto moves up to select the center prospect they need and take a chance on Yak, perhaps see if a kadri yak and kulemin line clicks for secondary scoring, freeing them up to shed lupuls salary somewhere else and possibly bring in komarov and bolland back (only at a reasonable 3.5-4 mill contract) to make a tough third line of komarov bolland clarkson and have the fourth line be some combination of hartikanen, damigo, ashton, mckegg, Mcclement etc.
Defence still needs fixing but after the trade the lines could look a lil something like this:
jvr bozak kessel
kulemin Kadri Yakupov
Komarov Bolland Clarkson
Hartikanen mckegg Ashton
I know yak doesn't really play defence but my thinking is perhaps kulemin his fellow russian would make him feel more at home while showing him the value of a two way game, whilst yak may help kulemin regain his scoring touch. plus I think the 3rd and 4th lines would be strong and athletic enogh to allow them to compete with the top teams in the east and be defensively responsible at the same time

MacT said no such thing about wanting a bigger winger to replace Yak. You're just making things up. Hell, he even said today that he is looking for a good center or winger to compliment Yak on the 3rd line. He's trying to get 3 scoring lines and a 4th line that can play against anyone, like the Kings and Hawks have.
3.) You need to re read that, I said Mac T said he was looking for a puck rushing defenceman, which he did say. leivo was my own addition to help balance the trade for edmonton
Not saying anything about the trade offers but reimer is better than pavalec and will cost less, not saying wpg has to trade for him but if they honestly think pavalec is going to do better for them than reimer they are in trouble. Hutchinson will have a better shot at being the starter than pavalec, who imo is a 4 mill back up. Reimer is a manitoba boy that'd be amped to play in front of his hometown crowd and family, looking to prove himself after a weak season and definitely has the potential and track record to be much better than pavalec, I dunno what the leafs are asking for but I can't imagine its the moon and stars, If i'm wpg i'd take a gamble on him for sure
Tspillz, that's got to be a troll or you're delusional cause the leafs don't want or need big buff, especially not for kadri who is 10x the player talent wise. Secondly I could see a deal like this coming but my guess is the leafs would target bogo on the backend, it would have to be reimer, franson + though to get it done. could also see the leafs being interested in kane too but I dunno if they would have the assets required to get both

Not saying it can't happen but I get a feeling kulemin is probably going to be looking at pittsburgh before anywhere else as his buddy malkin plays there and he's looking for a top 6 offensive role
Leafs are not trading gardiner for a 2nd, they are negotiating a contract with him and if he were to get flipped it would be for something of need or a 1st rounder at least

Phaneuf would easily be edms top D and you still maintain a top 10 pick, so essentially you're getting a top 2 D man for petry almost, how is that a bad trade for your team please explain? you aren't going to draft ekblad and the prospect you would get at 3 likely won't be nhl ready so why on earth wouldn't you aquire one of the hardest components to get in the nhl today whilst keeping a top 10 pick, that's win win the whole way around for edmonton
I agree with all of these except I believe the leafs could move up, not into the top three mind you but I think 4 or 5 is still possible depending on how things shake out
