COL - Mcdavid ($12.5M), 2022 1st

EDM - Mackinnon ($6.3M)

Swap #1C superstars, Oilers add the 1st as they’re getting the far better contract.

This way the Oilers can take the $6.2M per season in savings from this deal and actually pay their bills

This is sparked by the news that the Edmonton Oilers are being sued by hotels for refusing to pay $55k in tabs and actually bouncing cheques in Dec 2019 and March 2020, then blaming it on hard times and the C.V. C.V. even though it all happened prior to it.

Owner Darryl Katz is worth $3.5B but is too cheap to pay his tabs, so I assume he may consider a deal like this to save cash

Obviously this is a troll job, but refusing to pay your bills is so bad, it’s Arizona Coyotes missing player bonus type stuff. It’s cringeworthy and an embarrassment for the league. Other owners should be livid with Katz.

McDavid will not be moved and same with MacKinnon

I don't believe that Edmonton will trade McD for any one player.

Neither team does this but I wouldn’t even consider from a Colorado POV.

I read that it was simply just an accounting error and the Crescent Hotel will be paid right away. I think this is more of a story than it needs to be, and there is no reason to compare the Oilers to the Coyotes. Now if other hotels in different cities start, or had started to make the same claim, then it would be news worthy.
Only way McDavid is leaving is if he asks for it.

This wasn’t meant to be serious. But can you believe an owner who has $21M per season committed to 2 players for the next 5-6 years is refusing to pay $55k in hotel bills?

It’s actually unbelievable. If I’m another owner, besides Melnyk (because he’s just as cheap) I’m fuming that this clown is making the brand look foolish and petty

And if I’m his players, I’m wondering when am I going to get my paycheque or bonus money late like ARI has done.

Just embarrassing all the way around.

Sampson, I don't think he is refusing to pay the bill.
I agree that it is embarrassing, and i'm sure someone in the accounting department will be reprimanded for this, especially since it made way more noise than should have.

I'm betting Katz wasnt even aware the bill wasn't paid. Unlike us, he has people that take care of that stuff.

@sampson I thought you were serious haha but that’s messed up. The Sens management needs to go, they’ve been such a big headache for everyone

@Sosa.

Rick Westhead is one of the best investigative sports journalists out there. He was big in the concussion and CTE scandal/ stories. This is his reporting and his quote from the senior VP of the Oilers, Tim Shipton, was

“We have the same challenges as every business navigating through the global C.V.. We are working diligently through our business operations and attending to outstanding issues from the unexpected stoppage of last season. "

It is not a simple accounting error. They have changed their story to that after the lawsuit went public, but the first comment from a senior member of the company acknowledged its due to tough financial times and blamed it on a C.V. that hadn’t affected anything when these charges were not paid.

A little reading goes a long way lol.

Colorada says no. MacKinnon > McDavid and a heck of a lot cheaper too!

Ok buddy. you win this lil argument. Anyway, i'm sure we will have more BS who gives an eff stories while we have no Hockey on.

Yes, There will be other stories. I just don’t think a guy worth $3.5B screwing someone else (a hotel which is one of the worst hit businesses during these times) out $55k is a nothing story. Not when he has financial commitments of hundreds of millions to some top players in the league

A nothing story to you isn’t to everyone.

I just don't understand why the Hotel in Dallas is the only one complaining. All I read was the one on a sports App I have, not the original story by whoever the guy is you said. i'm sure Katz can easily pay that, not like 55gs is a lot of money. even i could pay that tab. . Just would hurt me a whole lot more, where as a billionaire probably wouldn't notice.

This could be resolved by tomorrow and without knowing the inner workings, it is a nothing story.

Also McKinnon is probably the second best player in the league right now but McDavid is going to be the best for a long time. Can never be 100% considering how kids are developing but not likely anyone beats him out for best in the league.

Lots of Rich people stiff others on tabs that they can easily pay. Barry Sherman was the billionaire in Toronto found murdered with his wife in their mansion a cpl years ago. The suspect list is so long because he had a history of getting tradesmen in to do work on his properties and then refusing to pay and just say “sue me” knowing the little guy couldn’t afford the fight in court. Rich people get richer by being ruthless, not by giving money away.

Problem is that method doesn’t fly when you’re not the sole big fish. When you’re 1/ 32nd of a combined brand and you pull this garbage, it makes everyone associated look really bad.
