With Toronto looking for more stable and experienced d-man. Let's look at this potential trade.
Mtl: Cowan
Tor: Savard.
Toronto could ask for a 3rd rounder.

no way from leafs.

Did you watch the WJHC? Cowan didn’t show well at all.

Habs decline.

3.) 10 Jan 2025 15:09:53
Savard is dogrubbish and old. I hated Cowan and he should not have been on that roster, but he is still young and has potential.

Why give a promising prospect for pretty well nothing?

4.) 10 Jan 2025 16:57:54
Chicken foot if an nhl player has a down year does that mean they have no trade value. They still have lots of it if they were a top player. This is a bit different because he is a prospect but he was having an in and season before he had a bad wjhc.

5.) 10 Jan 2025 17:10:39
The thinking on this trade is that Savard solidifies better defence now. Toronto can't wait for promising prospects to get to the finals.

6.) 11 Jan 2025 04:29:35
David Pasternak was sent down from NHL after a full season on the Bruins and played awful for Czech Republic. Basing a players value on 5 games when he led that team in points is just ridiculous. I’m also assuming the thing you’re referring to is his shootout attempt?

7.) 11 Jan 2025 12:46:44
Don't get me wrong he had an awful showing at the WJC. But he still holds value he just needs to bring it back up with strong play in the back half of the season and into the OHL playoffs.

8.) 11 Jan 2025 14:30:41
I don't believe a bad tournament defines a carreer. However, I don't think Easton Cowan is a super prospect he's made out to be. I think if he wants to be a full-time NHLer, he will need to change his game to a 4th line checking role. I think he's gonna be like a Charles Hudon. All of us Habs fans thought he was gonna be a top 6 player. Never came close.

9.) 11 Jan 2025 19:56:13
@SosaHabs I think you’re wrong. I think he can be a Jordan Eberle/ TJ Oshie type. I’d go as far as saying in a redraft he’d go higher. This guy just led team Canada in points and people are acting like he was the worst player. Where was Catton? Sam Dickinson turned over the puck more than any dman I’ve ever seen. All 4 QMJHL players shouldn’t even have been on the team. Nadeau with his AHL experience did nothing besides score the tieing goal. Luchenko and Ritchie did nothing either.

10.) 11 Jan 2025 21:34:29
Well VB, for the kids sake, hopefully I'm wrong.

11.) 12 Jan 2025 02:41:35
I’m just curious what made him stand out being worse then all the players I just mentioned with the exception of Dickinson.

12.) 12 Jan 2025 05:26:32
Sosa didn’t say worse than any of those guys. He said he’s not a high end prospect. I agree, I think the tournament proved it.

13.) 12 Jan 2025 14:43:14
Honestly VB, I didn't think many of the players were that good or looked like high end prospects other than ( The kid who got hurt, sorry can't remember his name, and McKenna.

Cowan probably stands out the most, because he gets alot of hype because he's a Leafs prospect. If he was say Utahs or Carolinas prospect, people wouldn't have really thought much of it. Wouldn't have been a big deal.

14.) 12 Jan 2025 19:05:37
A lot of those guys will also be back next year and they’ll be the ones in positions to be the best. And if they finish the tournament with 3 points Canada probably won’t medal again.

15.) 13 Jan 2025 00:36:12
I get what you mean but it’s a 5 game tournament. Pick a year and you’ll find a guy on any Canada roster that had a brutal tournament maybe 0 points and goes on to be a star in the NHL. A guy I’m personally really high on and was so excited to watch this tournament was Andrew Cristall. This guy has absolute super star Paniran level potential and he got cut. Buddy is leading WHL in points with 10 games less played then the player in 2nd place and was on a garbage rebuilding team before he was traded. The whole tournament was a joke on Canadas part their coach should be banned from ever stepping foot on a bench and I wouldn’t judge anyone based on it. Hell if Sam Dickinson wins the Calder next season running the sharks PP I wouldn’t be surprised.

16.) 13 Jan 2025 06:16:09
Really disappointing tournament for sure. Coach and GM were a lot to blame and maybe Hockey Canada culture?
I agree 5 game tournament doesn’t need to be taken too serious. He’s obviously a really good player, just hard to have him up there with the best when he wasn’t.
Canada should have a bunch of guys returning so hopefully they get us a medal!

17.) 13 Jan 2025 16:07:19
Cowan is getting torched because his misplays were costly. I think he rebounds in the back half of the season. Our WJC team was poorly coached and selected. We left some guys who could have made a difference, but can't do well with a coach who hold practices. The 67's arent in great shape with him at the helm either.

There is talk that the Devils are interested in Evans.
NJ: Cotter
Mtl:Evans
Both teams would benefit with this trade. NJ will get an experienced forechecker and faceoff player. Mtl gets a more physical player upfront for the bottom six.

Habs and Evans are working on a new deal.

2.) 10 Jan 2025 14:38:09
I hope so Chickenfoot . I'm hoping for 5 at 3.5M. What do you think he will get?

3.) 13 Jan 2025 13:17:09
SOSA: I think you're bang-on with 5 x 3.5M. It absolutely has to be less than 4M. On the upper end I could see them going as long as 8 years at 3.5M, which would make him 36 at the end of the deal. (Defensive centers tend to age well, so I could see them going that long if they had to. )
