Given Josh Norris injury, I could see the Sens making a move for a UFA to fill the need

Bo Horvat to Sens for a prospect like Jarventie and a 2nd. Upgradeable to a 1st if they take Zaitsev.

Brassard is filling the need for now, but a stronger option certainly wouldn't hurt

1.) 27 Oct 2022 01:10:59
The Sens aren’t one move away from a Cup, so it’s unlikely they move a package for a UFA.

2.) 27 Oct 2022 11:26:46
They will want to pay DeBrincat and Zub first.

Dark horse candidate for Tkachuk: Nashville (who is apparently one of his accepted destinations)

Nashville receives Tkachuk and Dube

Calgary receives Granland, Jeannot, Kemell and 2023 1st

1.) 21 Jul 2022 06:09:10
Doesn't make much sense to me, NAS already has Forsberg @8.5m & Duchene @8m

If Forsberg (NMC) wants to come to CGY and Tkachuk is willing to sign long-term in NAS (Doubtful), you can start there

Not interested in Duchene or giving up Dube, but we can discuss players like Kylington & Valimaki and Jeannot, Sissons & Trenin as Trade Assets instead.

2.) 21 Jul 2022 13:07:04
Forsberg or Tomasino would have to be apart of that deal

3.) 22 Jul 2022 04:11:39
Forsberg just signed a new contract with a NMC. He's not going to waive it now.

Granlund, Jeannot, Tomasino and a 1st might be enough to get it done. Johansen might make more sense than Granlund though. Similar production from both players last year. Johansen is bigger (Calgary needs more size in the top 6) and makes 3 mil/ yr more (opening up more cap space for Nashville) .

Nino Neiderreiter who just signed with the Preds could be interesting too. Johansen + Neiderreiter + Tomasino/ Jeannot + a 1st.

Under assumption the M Tkachuk is unhappy and wants to be traded:

Calgary receives Kyrou + 2023 1st + 2023 3rd

St Louis received Tkachuk

Then tank for Bedard?

1.) 14 Jul 2022 05:24:20
Make it Thomas instead of Kyrou and add Tarasenko instead of the 1st.

2.) 14 Jul 2022 07:40:43
St Louis just extended Thomas until 2030 they won't trade him now. Not even for Matthew.

Matthew Tkachuk

Jordan Kyrou
Vladimir Tarasenko
2023 first round pick.

3.) 14 Jul 2022 13:14:56
Lol no way they Get Taresanko and Kyrou for Tkachuk.

4.) 14 Jul 2022 16:48:19
Fair comment on Thomas not being available, but they might do it for Tkachuk. Alternatively what about:

Brayden Schenn + Tarasenko + 1st Round Pick + Tyson Galloway

Could do Ryan O'Reilly instead of Schenn, but I'd want another Pick or Young Prospect like Jake Neighbours as well (OR swap out Tarasenko for Kyrou as well), since O'Reilly only has 1 Year left on his contract whereas Schenn comes on a value contract. O'Reilly has performed better in the Playoffs and is Better at FaceOffs, but Schenn is more Physical, Better Offensively and comes from nearby Saskatchewan, so might be the better fit

@vbbbvvbb Whether it's via Trade or an Offer Sheet, CGY will net the Equivalent of THREE to FOUR 1st Round Picks for Tkachuk on an 8 Year $80-84 million contract.

5.) 14 Jul 2022 19:33:57
Schenn and O'Reilly are too old especially if 30 year old Tarasenko is the main piece coming back.

In addition Schenn is signed for way too long (7 more years) while O'Reilly and Tarasenko are both UFA next summer.

6.) 15 Jul 2022 01:33:16
The Centre would be the main piece. Yes, Thomas would be more ideal, but if they won't give him up, Schenn + a 1st & Prospect isn't bad. Tarasenko is simply there to replace Tkachuk's scoring, with the hope he's a good fit and signs a Team Friendly extension.

1 Young Star with 8-12 years of production for 2 Aging Stars with 10-12 years worth of production combined seems appropriate to me

We almost gave some 29 year old loser $10-$10.5mil/ yr x 8 years, so $6.5mil x 6 years doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. In another 4-6 years, CGY will likely be looking to tear it all down and rebuild anyways, it's the cycle of things and we need good players now while we have Sutter, Lindholm, Hanifin, Andersson, Mangiapane and Markstrom.

7.) 15 Jul 2022 03:58:27
We dodged a bullet with little johnny begone. We don't need to fire more bullets at ourselves by taking on a couple 30+ players and expecting them to not only stay in Calgary for 6-7 years each but be good the whole time too.

Schenn has 7 years left on his contract at $6.5 million/ year with a NTC. Do you really want to be stuck with that contract until he's 37 years old. Besides it's a full NTC until the summer of 2026 so he's not going anywhere before then unless he agrees to it.

Tarasenko and O'Reilly are both UFAs next summer and make a million a year more than Schenn.

If Calgary is trading Tkachuk it'll be for young players/ prospect and picks with maybe one highly paid older player coming back. Tarasenko would be the best option for that not just for the Flames but for the Blues too since he hasn't rescinded his trade request from last year.

8.) 15 Jul 2022 04:27:36
Fair points, but I’ve already pitched Tkachuk for Tarasenko and a haul of Picks/ Prospects.

Schenn has 6 yrs left and only 3 are NMC after which he provides a 15 Team no trade list, so he’d be moveable. He may be interested in coming to Calgary to be 1/ 2C as opposed to 3C in St. Louis and because it’s closer to home.

I addressed O’Reilly becoming a UFA by adding more and that if Tarasenko was a fit, hopefully he re-signed in CGY rather than bouncing around.

All Stars are getting long term contracts in to their late 30’s. Gaudreau just signed one that’ll take him to 36 years old and had CGY signed him (thank god they didn’t) he probably would’ve had a full NMC instead of the seemingly standard 4 Year NMC and 4 Year M-NTC he got.

Yea, we want as many Young, Good, Big & Fast Players as possible, but at the end of the day we need good players now. 30 isn’t ancient, some can still put up 4-5, sometimes 7+ more years of good production. Giordano is 40 and is no slouch. Depends on how well they took care of themselves throughout their career and the health care they’re provided.

Only reason I’m proposing Tkachuk Trades is if he won’t sign long-term in CGY and I don’t want what just happens with Gaudreau to happen again, but we have till the Trade Deadline for him to make a decision unless he gets accepts an offer sheet, which would force a decision.

9.) 15 Jul 2022 10:06:25
I counted the years wrong on Schenn's contract, you're correct it's 6 years left not 7. Still 6 years is about 3 years too long. Good point on Calgary being close to home but that makes it much harder to move him when the inevitable decline kicks in.

Very few players are going to play into their 40's and still be good like Giordano, Ovechkin, Chelios or Jagr. Most start to decline in the early 30s and become shadows of their younger selves rather quickly.

10.) 15 Jul 2022 10:11:39
Look at the mess Philly is in now because they took on too many highly paid 30+ year old players. Giroux, JVR, Voracek, Atkinson, etc.

And Philly didn't trade a young star player to get those guys when they were in their 30s either!

10 Jul 2022 02:23:18
Some signings/trades I'm hoping for as a Sens fan (tried to keep it somewhat realistic):

-Sign Giroux 2-3 year @ 6-7AAV
-Resign Norris 5-6 year @ 6-7AAV
-Resign Joseph 3 year @ 3AAV
-Call up Sogaard, Thomson, JBD

OTT: Mrazek
CHI: Murray + 2023 2nd
Reasoning: I like Mrazek and think he can bounce back. Chicago absorbs Murray and get compensated for it.

OTT: Pulijarvi (on a 3x3AAV) + Barrie
EDM: Brown + Zaitsev
Reasoning: Pretty much an exchange of bad defensemen with Ottawa getting the more offensively gifted one and Edmonton getting a solid Dman is his own zone. Brown fits in super nicely in Edmonton while Pulijarvi gets new scenery

OTT: 2023 6th
FLA: Del Zotto
Reasoning: He doesn't want to be in Ottawa so should be traded. Not a bad player but it would be tough to get anything of value for him.

I can post the lines if you wish, but let me know what you guys think/how values can be adjusted.

1.) 10 Jul 2022 05:07:30
Barrie isn’t a bad D. If Ottawa was interested in him I could maybe see a swap for Brown.

2.) 11 Jul 2022 10:25:28
Why would oilers trade barrie that still holds value and pulju that was a 1st line player this year for 2 capdumps? Brown is Ahl player. Benson 2.0.

3.) 11 Jul 2022 15:26:01
Connor Brown, not Logan Brown.

I’ve watched Durzi since he played Junior. He’s the future after Doughty and they shouldn’t trade.

Way too much for an expiring contract. Right now Vancouver is doing better so I can’t see Ottawa buying until their record improves.

Bertuzzi would be less. He’s also injured so it’s a bit of a risk.
