ANA - D Josh Manson (50% retained)

TOR - 2022 1stRD
F Nick Robertson
D Justin Holl

Leafs get a RHD rental to play on their 2nd pair with Muzzin.

Ducks get a young player with talent and a history of goal scoring at every level, just can’t get a chance in the Leafs top 6. Also obviously a 1st rounder

Holl has been a bargain for the Leafs for the past 2 seasons but has struggled this year and needs to be upgraded. He can slot in for ANA to finish the year, and could probably be extended cheap if it’s a good fit.

Anaheim is still in it for now. Holl and Robertson don't move the needle for a guy like Manson, who will bring a 1st if/ wherever he goes.

2.) 16 Feb 2022 14:28:34
Agreed, the Ducks are battling LA and edmonton for the last 2 playoffs spots.

3.) 16 Feb 2022 14:32:49
@chickenfoot, they’re getting a 1st in this proposal. Along with a good prospect and a replacement player.

I agree ANA isn’t a for sure seller yet tho, this would obviously only happen if they decided to become one based on the next 3-4 weeks.

4.) 16 Feb 2022 17:03:54
Anaheim isn't getting a first. They're getting a player the leafs wasted a first on. Not nearly the same thing.

5.) 16 Feb 2022 17:05:58
meh ok there is a first in there, you need to format your posts better.

6.) 16 Feb 2022 17:24:20
@moxnix

1. The leafs never wasted a 1st on Robertson, he’s got a lot of potential and was a 2nd rounder, 55th overall I believe.

2. A 1st is in the return and mentioned again in the explanation

3. You need to read better before commenting….

7.) 16 Feb 2022 17:35:43
@MoxNix and @Chickenbutt. Slow down and read the posts. I think you guys are too quick to jump on the pedestal you put yourselves on to lecture everyone and don't always get the entire trade or that its maybe a hypothetical Trade if the Team falls out of playoff contention prior to the Trade Deadline. C'mon Man!

8.) 16 Feb 2022 18:23:02
This is somewhat comparable to the Ristolainen trade and I think that trade was a big overpayment. This package probably be able to get a better D no?

9.) 16 Feb 2022 18:40:58
@ Trevor -thanks, yes that seems to be a common theme with some ppl

@ Ebs - you could be right, there’s no shortage of Dmen available this deadline so have to see prices as trades start to happen. Elliott Friedman reported that most teams were looking for a 1st and 3rd/ 4th for rental D (on par with David Savard to TB last year) . So I figured this gets them the 1st, and Robertson is more valuable than a 3rd-4th but Leafs need the retention so this gets ANA a little extra value for that.

10.) 16 Feb 2022 18:54:37
Hey MOB. my bad. I TOTALLY missed the 1st that you had clearly included. Cheers man👍.

11.) 16 Feb 2022 19:03:39
Or maybe if the original post was formatted better it wouldn't be misread.

Don't put one asset on the same line as the team name and the rest of the assets on their own lines below that. Either make a sentence containing everything or better yet put the team name on one line and each asset on a line after that. Much easier to read that way.

Also not to nitpick but considering context it was easy to think "Also obviously a 1st rounder" meant Robertson was a first round pick.

12.) 16 Feb 2022 19:05:48
@chicken - no worries. It happens, you just missed it, you didn’t get rude and give a snarky condescending reply blaming me for your mistake like the other guy lol

Your input is always welcome 👍.

13.) 16 Feb 2022 19:38:17
Thanks MOB, and as I said yesterday, great handle!

(Bob MacKenzie is one of my favorites too. I respect that he is semi-retired now, but his knowledge of prospects is unrivaled in my mind. What an interesting cat he would be to corner in the Air Canada lounge during a flight delay to talk hockey!

14.) 16 Feb 2022 19:54:44
@ MoxNix - Josh Manson is written directly beside ANA. And the 2022 1st Rd pick is directly beside TOR…. If the 1st was so hard to find, how did you possibly know it was a trade for Manson? Lol

Give it a rest man. Take the L, be a little less ignorant when talking to people and move on. No one else but you had been that confused, and when Chickenfoot was, he wasn’t a jerk about it.

Take it easy fella.

15.) 16 Feb 2022 20:32:34
@chickenfoot. I actually met Bob at the 2016 Draft in Buffalo. Obviously didn’t get to talk much, quick exchange and a photo but ya, he’s who I immediately think of when I hear “trade Rumour” so it was an easy one lol.

16.) 16 Feb 2022 22:19:35
That is a fantastic story Mob! I have big respect for Bob, but I haven't even met him in passing. Maybe some day he and I will miss the same flight together and I'll get to corner him for some hockey talk. (His books are good too 👍)

17.) 16 Feb 2022 23:28:05
@Mob I guess YOU missed the part where I corrected my missing that in the very next post.

18.) 17 Feb 2022 06:17:06
I would think Edmonton might be the landing spot for Manson.
I think one of the new assistant coaches really likes his game.

19.) 17 Feb 2022 12:24:57
@moxnix, and then followed it up by blaming me and being a dink about it lol just move on. We are here for hockey trade talk and to have fun. Not to be lectured about format and grammar by you. Please just move on. Thanks.

@Renidrag, I’ve heard that connection made too but is “playing for your dad” really a motivation for a professional athlete to choose a team. Maybe it is for some guys, definitely wouldn’t be for me.

Also he has all 7 Canadian Teams on his No Trade lost and therefore have to waive to be dealt to one. If a guy is doing that, leaving (or moving his family) I’d assume he would only do it for a team that’s for sure going to the playoffs (CGY/ TOR) . Don’t see him leaving ANA to miss the playoffs maybe elsewhere.

20.) 17 Feb 2022 14:58:02
I'm not the one who keeps crying because someone suggested I format a post a little better.

21.) 17 Feb 2022 16:00:35
I’m not whining at all. I pointed out you criticized a post that you never even read, you got your back up for being wrong and now can’t let it go. Just. Move. On. 😂

Or better yet, post something yourself to put yourself out there. Atleast then your criticism of others will have some credibility rather than not proposing anything, just being the first to jump on others. Give it a try, it’s not easy.

22.) 17 Feb 2022 17:55:09
What is your problem?

You made a post that was hard to read. I wasn't the only one to misread it and going by the number of downvotes it wasn't just two of us either.

As soon as I noticed there actually was a first in there I acknowledged that. Before you replied or anyone else commented. That should have been the end of it right there but no you just won't let it go.

I never blamed you for anything. I have been polite throughout, I haven't been rude or snarky though you most certainly have been.

I didn't get my back up over anything but you sure did. I never even said you did anything wrong. I merely suggested you should format your posts a little better. When you got *your back up over that, I explained (nicely again) why it was easy to misread (again and not just by me) .

And you still won't drop it. You just keep bringing it up over and over again.

Oh and BTW, I'm not proposing anything?! I guess you must not read very many posts here at all.

23.) 17 Feb 2022 19:48:01
Merely suggested I could format my post better? …. “meh ok there is a first in there, you need to format your posts better. ”…. lol that’s not suggesting, that's telling me what I NEED to do lol it wasn’t that difficult. The 1st rounder (most valuable part of the pkg) was placed exactly where Josh Mansons name was placed for ANA. Figure it out.

And AFTER I explained to ChickenFoot that there is a 1st in there, you come back with “that’s not a 1st, that’s a player that the Leafs wasted a 1st on” lol. So don’t tell me you were nothing but polite and not snarky. You were still trying to put down my proposal even tho you were wrong about the 1st rounder being included. Wrong for thinking I was counting Robertson as a 1st rounder. Wrong for thinking Robertson was a 1st rounder in the first place…. Get real. Don’t be a jerk and move on.

And the amount of agree/ disagree is irrelevant to me. I don’t care that people don’t think it’s realistic/ likely/ fair. Disagree with me all you want, that’s part of the Fun and debate. But don’t do it in a condescending way for absolutely no reason, especially when you’re wrong, unless that’s how you want people to respond to everything you say

Just drop it and post what you want. I don’t want to nitpick and be a jerk, so I won’t. But You do you.

24.) 17 Feb 2022 21:08:45
Boys, I believe you have both made your point and I usually get/ take the last word on this site, so here it is:

I like everyone and appreciate this forum for being a place where we can put out our thoughts, ideas and proposals to be discussed, dissected and yes, even criticized. It takes some Big Kahoona's to put yourself out there for the internet world to rip you and your ideas apart and there's certainly trolls out there who like to do just that and Hit the "Down Vote/ Disagree" button. A message for everyone, don't let that button or number discourage you. In my experience 80% of people don't really care what your opinion is and 20% are jealous and upset they didn't come up with the idea first or its better than theirs was. And of course, we don't all have the same passion, knowledge and experience, thus we are going to have to educate and correct one another from time to time.

It takes a certain amount of ARROGANCE to be on a sight and forum like this (something I have been accused of myself), where of course everyone thinks their ideas and positions are the "Right One" and should get the "Up Vote/ Agree" button.

I typically mirror the tone. If somebody wants to be rude, snarky or condescending to me, don't be surprised if/ when you get it back; but at the end of the day, if you respect and appreciate me for putting myself out there, I will or at least I'll try to reciprocate that. I've had good and bad posts with guys like @MoxNix, @HockeyDad, @NotACasual, @ChickenFoot and so on.

I'm sure most of you are aware that our Freedom of Speech and Expression is under attack right now and it's hard to say anything without it being blocked or moderated, so let's appreciate one another's differences and respect that we are all entitled to our opinions and accept that we can always agree to disagree and move on sometime. Okay!? Game On!

Oilers placed Brendan Perlini on waivers and never even told him lol Hos mom saw it on Twitter and messaged him.

That’s an absolutely terrible showing from a veteran GM. I think Holland has done a poor job with some of his signings and trades, but you still assume they’re decent people away from their professional decisions

This is such a classless, spit in the face to a player. The last cpl seasons the players have lost money, been moved around, played in bubbles away from family. Have the decency to tell the kid face to face what’s going on.

It’s a bad look for an organization that is going to need to attract guys like Perlini, on cheap contracts with some potential.

No way that Leaf’s want or take Ritchie back. They tried it, he didn’t work there. And IF they’re willing to part ways with a couple prospects and a 1st rounder, it’ll be for someone with a better track record than Crouse.

I really don’t see the Canucks being able to move that Miller contract. Retaining 50% of his $5.25M this year isn’t enough when he has 7 more years after it at a big number for a guy that’s turning 30 next month and already looks like he’s a step behind where he was when he signed the extension

He’s a fiery guy and a good player, so there would be a home for sure, I just don’t think you’d be getting much of a haul for him if they’re taking the whole $56M commitment back

My 2 cents.

I can’t believe teams trading guys for cap reasons that they just gave multi year deals to. Holland had the chance to not give Barrie that contract and instead use it to improve his Goaltending which should have been priority #1 all along.

Much like Garland in Vancouver. Give a guy the $5Mx5 and then want out of it in 45-50 games. Ridiculous. It’s the type of moves a GM should be held accountable for.

I like Miller but that package is way too big considering what the other 2 pieces going to NYR are

Lafrenniere hasn’t been as advertised so far but he’s not a throw in player in a trade yet lol he’s in his 2nd season with 39pts in 110 games. For context, Joe Thornton as a 1st overall pick had 48pts in his first 136 NHL games. Vinny Lecavalier had 45pts in his first 105 NHL games after going 1st overall.

I’m not saying he’s going to be a Hall Of Famer like Jumbo or be an elite player for a decade like Vinny, I don’t know. But I also know this isn’t some unprecedented start to a career for a talented kid with high expectations after going 1st.

Rangers would look pretty stupid to force him out at 20 at low value and have him be a 60-70pt player elsewhere at 21.

2 things. First off you would have to calculate the cap recapture as Reindrag said.

Secondly, the Habs would want more than a 6th to do this. You make it sound like they’re paying out $7.6M cash a year. Shea Weber’s contract was insured against injuries like this. Each policy is different so I don’t know the exact number, but most players with long term deals like his are insured somewhere in the 80-90% range.

So that means that the Habs are actually paying him probably somewhere between $750k-$1.5M out of pocket.

You do not accept a 6th round pick, to avoid a salary that insignificant while gracing a rival with $7.5M cap space. There just isn’t nearly enough reason to do it.

In 2 weeks he has brought in O’Rielly, McCabe, Acciari, Lafferty, Schenn, Gustafsson and recovered a 1st rounder…. lost only Sandin, Engvall and Joey Anderson off the NHL roster, has chicago paying 50% of McCabe for 2 more seasons AND actually gained cap space over that period.

I honestly don’t know anyone else that would have or could have done that. If they don’t extend him, where do you go looking for a replacement GM that’s an upgrade? I wouldn’t wanna be the guy who has to find it. And if you don’t keep Dubas around, does Brandon Pridham, their cap expert, stay? Or does he go with Dubas?

I think it’ll be a big mistake to not extend Dubas regardless of what happens in the first round. He’s done his job at an elite level. It’s up to the players to do theirs now.

No lol

Imagine tomorrow just saying Tampa loses Kucherov, Vasilevsky, Sergachev. Caps lose Ovie, Kuz, Samsonov, Orlov

If you just arbitrarily gut some of the top players from teams because where they were born, you punish the whole league. It ruins the achievements of whoever wins it all.

I’m fine with saying that Russia can’t send a team representing the nation to any International events, and obviously can’t host any. But to just remove players from club teams based on nationality is too far.

Rumour has it Oilers see real potential in OJ Simpson as a strength and conditioning coach. Think his character and off ice mentorship will be invaluable to their young players….

Getting a late 1st+ for him would be fair if he was a rental. The fact he has 2yrs left after this at a bargain cap hit, tells me they settled for a weak pkg.

The guys a proven player who averages 25g for his entire career regardless who he plays with and what situation. You won’t find that player at $4.25M again.

Great pick up for CGY.
