Rumoured deal with Carolina according to numerous sources:
TOR: Phil Kessel, Nazem Kadri, 3rd Round (2015)
CAR: Alexander Semin, 5th Overall Pick
Honestly I have no idea why Carolina would do this, they are in a rebuild. I also don't see the benefit for Toronto. Will the player drafted 5th be better then Kessel? I'm not sure, plus giving up Kadri who is still developing along with acquiring Semin. Who is well. Semin.
This trade doesn't make sense and yet it's being discussed.

The only deal I could see the leafs and hurricanes doing involving semin would probably involve phaneuf. The only way I see the hurricanes making a deal for kessel involving semin would be a deal that wouldn't include Kadri in all likelihood. I think this would be the type of deal done if the hurricanes thought they could take a big step forward in 2015-2016 but given the quality of players available in this years draft giving up that type of pick for kessel is rather difficult to believe.

I have no idea why the leafs would do this.
Kessel is a premier NHL RW in his prime. He has identical trade value to Patrick Kane, If not more because he is on a better contract.
Kessel will get traded to a contender for a plethora of prospects and or draft pics.

I could see kessel going to Carolina for for the 5th overall and prospect. Carolina isn't in a full rebuild,they have the stall boys they're and ward. They're in an in between stage they could either go full rebuild with the young guys they have or mix up the roster add a goal scorer and try to get a d- man and go fir it.

this rumor probably started from the carolina side of things. That is probably the package they would start with asking, i'm sure they would have to add more in order to make this deal possible. For what toronto is giving up they should probably get skinner.

I rescind my previous statement - as I thought Toronto was trading the 3rd overall(which they don't have lol).
In one respect I have a hard time believing Carolina would give up the 5th overall. However, their team is built in such a way that they are invested in a competitive team. So maybe it's not that crazy.

I would personally pass on this trade from a leafs standpoint. Semin has negative value in my opinion so You're essentially trading a dynamic point producing 1st line winger a second line center that's still only 23 or 24 with room to improve and a 3rd in a really deep draft for an unproven yet high potential prospect. And even though the prospect taken at that spot cough Marner cough will probably become the best player in the trade its still a huge risk for the leafs to take.

I've read it on 6 or 7 different sites and it's been mentioned on TSN. Of course, it's a rumour - so I wouldn't get too bent out of shape.
