The NHL is as much financial as it is the best Players BJ96.
Carolina does it to give them Cap Relief not Cap Space, the biggest cost for Carolina is the 5th Overall Pick.
A lot can agree or disagree but some Teams just don't have the money its a fact.

I see your point so they give up there best asset for cap space?(5th overall). Hurricanes could swap ward for a pick and clear cap that way, I just don't see them trading away the 5th with the direction of the team. Carolina would want a Nylander or Reilly, but I doubt Leafs would part ways with those players.

CWard for Reimer is a wash at this point
Yes I agree giving up the 5th Overall is the Cap Relief cost that's a tough one but Carolina will still get a good Player at 24th and add Percy to there rebuild who will play for Carolina next Season.
Yes Chirp at it again but look it up yourself Carolina and Toronto are talking and the 5th Overall and Semin are in play, and Kessel or Phaneuf doesn't help there Cap Problem.

Every once in a while a player is traded as a pure dump Gagner for a 6th. But often a team with cap issues can find a buyer who will provide a reasonable return. For example Clarkson for Horton, or Briere for 5th and Parenteau, or Moen for Gonchar. I do not think Francis would make the trade that you are suggesting.

Nobody will take Semin at 7million sbr2017 except a deep pocket Team like the Leafs, Lupul even though injured a lot is still a Top 6 Winger on any Team, Reimer makes 4million less then CWard and Percy a former 1st Round Pick may not be a star player but he will be a NHLer, the 24th Overall Pick this Year is 14th Overall in most other Years so Carolina will still get a good Player, I guess we will all see what really happens at the Draft this month, until then so many will post this and that, Chirp will dig me on anything I post on the Leafs, my guess Chirp is a Kessel for Parenteau would be a fair Trade in you're books, I know the Leafs would have to add there 24th Overall Pick to make it fair I get it.

I "dig" you on what you post re: leafs because they are always outrageous, ridiculous proposals. You need to try looking at it from both teams prospectives and not just "I want this for the leafs so here is a random slurry of a proposal and this is what it would (somehow) warrant in return." I mean, you've been obsessed with sending Kessel+ to the Isles for a bunch of their top prospects. It makes no sense! What do the Isles need with Kessel?! And why would they strip their youth and prospect pool for him? It doesn't make sense, dude. Wake up.
