Leafs trade: dion phaneuf, conditional 3rd
Oilers trade Nikita nikitan, nail yakupov,conditional 2nd
**Condition is if the oilers make the playoffs

Leafs hang up phone. nikitan is a cap dump at this stage. yakupov hasn't proven anything and he even said he's going to go to the khl the 2nd will turn into a third so its basically. Phaneuf, 4th for (cap dump) 3rd. Phaneuf is worth a lot more. stop with these ridiculous proposals.

Yakupov doesn't fit the leafs new mantra of hardworking character players. He does posses the potential of high end skill that could translate into top line scoring. If any coach could turn him around Babcock could. The Nikitin contract is horrendous enough that Edmonton might actually do this deal. Interesting.

Yakupov is a crazy hard working player. That's one of his problems he tries to do to much. And Niktins contract is terrible for one more year Phaneufs is for 6 or whatever. Ohh and Yakupov has said he's going to the KHL interesting I've never heard that. Not sure if Phaneuf fits Oil futures plans so no from Edmonton

Yakupov has never said he's going to the KHL. People made that up during his awful time under Eakins (worst Oilers coach in a very long time, everyone suffered under him and his SWARM defense) and, in fact, Yak has stated he only wants to play in the NHL. So apparently the dumb false rumor is making a comeback, this time for no reason at all. New GM, new coaches, different-looking team, McDavid, etc. You really think Yakupov is looking at all these positive changes and thinking "I wanna go play in a lesser league!"? Gimme a break.

Phanuefs contract is a huge burden. I'd think Oilers would go after a UFA that hasn't signed or go for a higher end D via trade. Plus Oilers are weak on RW so Yak probably not on block

I would be just fine if the leafs aquired Yakupov. He's probably one of if not the hardest working player in Edmonton always going into the corners and back checking hard, he just lacks hockey IQ and has been poorly executed in Edmonton.

lol no, EDM is far from a guarantee to make the playoffs. awesome top 6, below average/avergaeg bottom 6, largely untested goaltending and still horrible defence does not equal a playoff team. don't get me wrong, they might make it like a calagry this year, but absollutely no guarantee at all.

Yakupov has not yet lived up to his projected potential. However, he absolutely lit it up in junior and still has a good chance of developing into a first line winger. He had an awful season along with many other oilers under the dark Dallas Eakins days. Yakupov could (I expect him to) have a rebound year with a new coach and a new system. His trade value is incredibly low right now and Edmonton would be dumb to give up on him and his potential at this point.
