Kraken take Kessell in expansion then trade him to TO for Kerfoot and hold 50% of Kes's cap. TO signs Oleksiak. Trade Reilly to Dallas for Roope Hinz and a late pick. TO signs Savard. TO signs McGinn, Coleman and Perry. They lose Holl or Dermott to expansion. They end up with a defence of:
Oleksiak-Holl or Dermott
Muzzin-Savard
Sandin-Brody
Hutton-Liljgren
Forwards:
Kessell-Matt's-Marner
Hinz-Taveres-Nylander
Micky-Coleman-McGinn
Simmons-Spezza-Perry
Brooks
Then they sign Ullmark to go with Campbell.

Explain why Seattle trades kessel to Toronto and retains half of Kessel contract. this just seems like a huge favour for them to do with zero incentive to do so.

@habby2 I was thinking the same thing.

I don't see Kessel for kerfoot straight up for Seattle, let alone retaining.

So first the Kraken does Toronto a couple huge favors and then Perry and Savard resign with Toronto for next year?

What are the Leafs going to pay them with? Peanuts?

I think they both stay with the teams that brought them in as rentals rather than Toronto. The two teams in the Stanley Cup finals.

So your first line would consist of two players who are shoot-first mentality.

Kessell will be a hard sell to any team but Kerfoot will bring a few more assets because a number of teams need third line centres. They may need to add something here?

Kessell is one of the best passers in the league too. Ask JVR about that.

Not signing Hyman and Freddie then trading Reilly and Kerfoot opens up a big chunk of money.

I think Kessel > kerfoot to Seattle. So asking them to retain while trading the better player, what else is Toronto giving up?
