Kinda seems like a Calgary overpay.
Dach is good but hasn’t really proven too much.

26 Jun 2022 18:02:34
You guys are high on Dach, but to me he's probably only worth Jusso Valimaki or a 2nd RD Pick now. Both are gambles after major injuries stunted their development. Dach had a concussion, then wrist surgery and most recently a couple shoulder injuries and Valimaki had knee surgery. Neither has performed or produced up to expectations.

Toffoli >>> Monahan 25% retained, so I'd keep Toffoli, but like the idea of including & moving Mony, just shouldn't cost near as much as you propose here.

26 Jun 2022 19:36:35
Dach is easily worth more than a 2nd or Valimaki.

26 Jun 2022 22:40:48
Not based on his statistics he’s not. 7.8-Shot% and 34.6% on Faceoffs are not good at all. His Takeaway Giveaway ratio is impressive though.

He’s definitely not worth anything close to what they drafted him for at 3rd Overall. He’s young and could recover from his injuries, so maybe he can turn things around but he’s what I would consider a gamble.

26 Jun 2022 23:40:25
Yes, it's a an overpay but that's probably what it would take to pry him out of Chicago. It's a bit of a gamble but I think he'd be a good gamble.

Dach has size skill a good two way game and a good draft pedigree. A big center and a right shot too. Sure he needs to improve on faceoffs and start producing more but if he didn't Chicago wouldn't be listening to offers on him. He's a Saskatoon boy too so he should be pretty happy playing in Calgary.

The way I see it Dach's floor is a good 3rd line center but he could easily be a good second line center in another year or two. Maybe even a first line center eventually.

Calgary needs young center depth in the NHL now. Backlund will be able to handle second line center duty for a while longer but it'd be nice to reduce his responsibilities soon. With two big young center in Dach and Ruzicka pushing each other they should both improve. Hopefully one of them will be ready to take over the second line in a year or so.

@Trevor Yes Toffoli has more trade value than Monahan now, that's why the defenseman included is Kylington with Toffoli and Poirier with Toffoli.

Chicago might actually prefer Poirier since he's younger but Kylington is more valuable and could be flipped for other assets.

27 Jun 2022 01:57:43
I’d prefer to just stick with Dube & Ruzicka over taking a gamble for that price. Preference is still Pavel Zacha who should be cheaper to acquire or Vegas is up against the cap, so try to land Brett Howden or Nicholas Roy, at least they’re more physical. Nolan Patrick might be even be a cheaper/ better gamble than Dach.

I’d keep Poirier, he may prove to be even better than Kaiden Guhle. I’m fine to trade Mony, Lucic, Kylington, Valimaki and Picks, but don’t want to Trade Toffoli unless we get a better replacement player/ scoring and I’m curious how Zary will rebound this year, so don’t want to move him unless it’s for good value, since I’m worried his value may have dropped due to injury as well. Backlund should be 3C, time to make the Top-6 Lines 1A & 1B.

27 Jun 2022 05:56:14
We'd still have Dube and Ruzicka. In fact all three of them could possibly wind up on the same line. Two lefties and a righty.

Two years ago I would have taken a chance on Nolan Patrick but not anymore. He's way too injury prone. Multiple concussions and ongoing issues with migraine headaches. About all it takes is one more injury and his career is done.

Poirier is years away. As a left shot "offensive" defenseman with defensive issues he's expendable. Big physical shutdown defenseman Yan Kuznetsov probably makes the team long before Poirier.

27 Jun 2022 16:30:51
Just saying Dube & Ruzicka will perform the same or better than Dach

I agree you need a couple right shots for the PP, but otherwise I'm over LH vs. RH, many players are just as good on their off hand and have no problem clearing the zone or passing back in their D-Zone

You're not wrong on Nolan Patrick, he's a Humpty Dumpty now

There'll be room in the future for both Poirier and Kuznetsov to make the team.

27 Jun 2022 21:03:20
Ok, if it's too much for Dach what would you take out? Pretty much have to have Monahan or Toffoli in there (I can't see Chicago wanting Looch or Looch waiving for them) so I'm thinking take out either Zary or Kylington/ Poirier.

Either Toffoli or Kylington could be flipped for at least a late first.

Maybe give Chicago their choice of Zary/ Kylington or Poirier, Kylington or Zary if they take Monahan, Poirier if they take Toffoli.

Monahan with no retention + Kylington or Zary + 2023 first round pick

or Dach for

Toffoli or Monahan with 25% retention + Poirier + 2023 first round pick.

That'd make it Dach for the equivalent of two late first round picks (at least) and either Monahan or Poirier.

27 Jun 2022 22:52:14
I don't want Dach at all TBH. Really don't care that he was Drafted 3rd Overall either. Best I would offer is Valimaki and might throw in Monahan 25% retained, just to get Cap Space, but we can ship Mony elsewhere for at least a pick in return

Valimaki is going to perform just as good as Dach if not better next season as a full-time D-Man. I want more experienced players with better track records. Dube for example is a much better Goal Scorer, especially 5on5, he's more Defensively Responsible and is Twice as Physical, not to mention he's better at Faceoffs. Ruzicka's pretty much the same. Maybe Dach's will be a better Playmaker down the road, but CGY needs guys who can step in and perform now, hence why I'd prefer Dylan Strome instead

CHI could definitely use a Young LD, CGY doesn't need, but could always use more competition at C, so I'd do it 1for1 only for that reason and the fact we don't need Valimaki, since we have Mackey

I know this will get down voted and won't be a popular position, but Dach may be a Humpty Dumpty himself and hasn't shown enough to be this drooled over or sought after IMO.

27 Jun 2022 23:55:29
Dach was immediately called up to play for a bad team before he was ready for the NHL. Way too much was expected from him way too soon. He's had a couple injuries, started his NHL career during the panicdemic plus had to endure both a coaching change and massive organizational upheaval.

In Calgary he'd be on a much better team that wouldn't be looking at him to be an immediately savoir who can carry the team from day one. For the first time in his NHL career he'd have stability with a clearly defined role, realistic goals and expectations.

28 Jun 2022 02:31:39
Could re-sign Jarnkrok for $1.25-1.75mil and he’d likely do better than Dach for the Flames next season.

28 Jun 2022 03:09:31
I hear ya Mox. If the price is right, I don’t mind giving the kid a chance, but no point in giving up 3-4 very good picks/ chances to develop a great player for 1 that’s a gamble in return.
