Had lots of free time today during class and was REALLY bored, so I came up with some leafs trades which is always fun
Be free to disagree with anything that i'm saying, would love some decent feedback because i'm probably off a lot anyways, so here some big trades for the leafs

I see a lot of trades of kessel to the isles so here goes nothing lol

Tor - Kessel, Percy
Nyi - Strome, Reinhart, 2nd, (no need for a cap dump since visnovsky's salary is coming off the books and isles don't have any bad contracts)
NYI give up some good prospects but having a top line of kessel - taveres - okposo might be too good to pass up and percy can maybe join the 3rd or 2nd Dline

Now this was an idea I thought of havnt heard any rumours. jvr would probably have the most value out of all our players other than kessel

Tor - Jvr
Sj - Hertl, Goldobin

With Marleau being traded they now have a replacement top line LW who if Thornton doesn't get traded could look very good, and Hertl has tonnes of potential, and Goldobin looks good aswell I think their values are pretty equal. Hertl also has has a small history of injuries in his short career so far (not very important) but it affects his value a tidly bit

Tor - Lupul
Car - Semin, 2nd

Caralina gets rid of Semins ridiculous contract and gives uo a decent pick, and recieves Lupul who has had better production than Semin, but has a injury history. but 2m less cap

heres where stuff goes out the door and 100% won't happen buttt.

Tor - Phaneuf, Bernier, Kadri, 2nd Car
Edm - 3rd/4th ovr, Pouliot/Nikitin/Purcell (bad contract)

Edm probably won't do this because they might just want to draft Hanafin for the "future" but the fans are getting a little fed up so to quicken it a bit I thought maybe. that they trade for phaneuf who could play with schultz on the top line, a #1 goalie in Bernier and kadri who is the 2nd line C since Draisaitl isn't ready yet I believe it makes the team better with all the talent on that team I think it makes them all around more solid (give a contract away to make cap space) also deal only happens if it is 100% sure they sign a deal before they get traded.

This is my own little touch because I love my Kuchy

Tor - Gardiner, Brown, nyi 2nd
Tb - Kucherov (maybe a D-man cap dump aswell)

Of course the triplets aren't being split up but i'd love this deal to happen as kucherov is my favourite player outside of Zetterberg and Stamkos, Gardiner can join the 2nd d-line, brown can be on the 2nd line and produce well with johnson and palat as his linemates, and a 2nd sweetens the pot (probably not enough but u know :P)

Anyways in the end heres how things work out
During the draft you draft Hanafin and strome/marner in the 3 and 4 picks, unless we win the lottery we draft hanafin and McJesus (I think arizona will draft a C so no worries for them to pick hanafin)

Then during Free Agency we make a splash and make a huge gamble we go out and sign Andrew "the Hamburgler" Hammond, if ottawa don't sign him of course, its kinda a win/win situation. he either turns out into a world class goalie or he's awful and we get a great pick again and the leafs make a fortune off of his Hamburglar nickname haha, then we go out and sign a big name free agent Dman either Sekera, Green, Martin (to play on the top line with Rielly and help him grow)

Lines: (in an ideal world for the Leafs)
Offence:
Strome - Hertl/Mcdavid - Kucherov
Panik - Hertl/Bozak - Semin
Komarov - Bozak/Holland - Booth
Kozun - Holland/Smith - Sill

(Dcore will suck for a while)
Defence:
Rielly - Martin/Sekera/Green*
Reinhart - Polak
Brennan/Brewer - Robidas

Goalie:
Hammond
Reimer
(keep in mind I havnt added any of the "cap dump players into the line up so that would change things aswell)

(Keep Hanafin, Strome/Marner, Goldobin down int he minors a year or two more)

Thats what i'd do as the Leafs GM (and that's why i'm not HAHA :( sad isn't it)

Well gimme your thoughts :D

Overall I don't think those trades are very bad at all. Worst one probably the Tampa one as even if Kucherov was traded Brown wouldn't be good enough to end up on the second line (Namestnikov, Drouin) and Gardiner wouldn't make the second D pair (likely Coburn/Garrison).The only D man dump Tampa has is Matt Carle and I would love to get rid of him I won't lie but I don't feel that makes the trade viable. I know you know it won't happen, I just think value isn't quite there nor the need for Tampa

Youre Forgeting something no one want to play on Toronto plus you're not getting two top five pick

18 Apr 2015 19:09:29
i think toronto over pays on the first one and I don't see why toronto would chip in percy in that trade.

two solid forwards for jvr isn't bad I just don't like the trade for toronto I think they would go after other players.

The lupul trade is awful for toronto makes no sense, semins contract is one of the worst in hockey, it would be clarkson 2.0 in toronto and the management group can't have that.

I can't see edmonton giving up that pick but the leafs give up too much to get it. I think they would be better served trading those players separately they would get a better return.

Tampa says no.

I'm not sure if you understand trade montrealfinest but when a player is traded he doesn't have much of a choice where he goes to unless he has a no trade clause.

Toronto could get two top five picks as well, you can't just go ahead and say that they won't because it's not even draft day.

Lol i'm not sure that you read is free agency part after the trade ahaha

19 Apr 2015 08:37:53
yes, because free agency determines if players want to play in a certain city or not. what free agents has montrel signed in recent years? manny malhotra and prust I believe are the only 2 ufa signings on the current roster, and prust was like 4 years ago. so by your logic no one wants to play in montreal either, right?

and now you're going to go on some random tangent on how montreal doesn't need ufa's, which isn't my point, yet contradicts your own. so please, for your own sake, don't say that and come up with an intelligent response instead.i know that'll be hard, but give it the ol' college try and you might get half way there.

19 Apr 2015 21:48:02
Ok but first free agency is a complete waste of money
Ok Now Montreal and detroit don't have to use the free agency cause we draft well!

Free agency give you guy like Clarksonn Shankar you love him don't you;) so please go ahead but This is more intelligent then being unrealistic about the fact that everyone want to play in Toronto! Face the fact you're giving bad contract to free agent, and when resigning player in toronto and that reflect on the league!
No wonder pk got 9 millions its because phaneuf got overpay!

There is only 2 place worst then Toronto before the lotery and that was Edmonton and Arizona Now that mcdavid is in Edmonton your almost tie with worst place with Arizona
