I think Detroit would just move Filippula for the highest pick we could get or highest prospect we could get, especially with retention.

There is not really a need for Russell. If Edmonton wants to add to move his contract, we’re open to those types of deals by taking on salary for picks/ prospects.

I think Detroit could use a veteran D considering Eriksson and Daley are UFA’s and they don’t have much else for veteran D. Also he’d be another asset for them at the deadline.

If we really need a Vet D, we can likely sign a depth one as a UFA like we did with Nemeth. Assuming we lose the Krug sweepstakes.

Getting rid of Daley/ Ericsson is good for us because it gives more room for our young D like Cholowski or Seider to push for spots.

The only question here is who will have greater trade value at the deadline: Filippula or Russell? If it’s Russell, we may take this to flip him later. If it’s Filippula, we keep him.

I agree, I think the 5th might not be enough alone but I think Russel gets more at the deadline. 15 point stay at home D might be able to get a 4th if his salary is retained.

In this current time salary cap is worth more then gold. The wings could load up on probably 5 1st round picks just by taking salary this year. I think it’d take a 2nd to dump Russel he’s not even bad but this offseason is unique and like I said cap space is very valuable.

I think you might be exaggerating the salary cap VB. I think definitely teams will have to be more careful and it’ll have an impact on the market. But I don’t think a team or at least not Edmonton would trade a second to drop one year of 2.5M.
