To Pittsburgh:
LW/C-Dillon Dube @ 2.30/RFA2024
LW-Milan Lucic @50% 2.625/UFA2023

To Calgary:
C/RW-Jeff Carter @ 2.636/UFA2022
LW/C-Brian Boyle @ 750k/UFA 2022

Might be too early to consider this one just yet, but Penguins get much younger and Flames get more playoff experience and Carter reunites with Sutter in hopes of another cup.

The Penguins were said to be interested in Lucic at one time and Dube gets a change of scenery with opportunity to play 2nd Line and Power Play minutes as well.

I’d much rather have Dube and Lucic.

@Casual I was thinking the same thing.

Why does Calgary start making deals like this, when they are at the top of the division?

This deal would clear cap space, provide the Flames with more Stanley Cup experience, a Right Shot who can slot in at the 2nd Line Center and Right Wing Positions and can put the puck in the net as well as assist Coleman and Mangiapane to do the same.

Boyle replaces Lucic on the 4th Line LW position at a much more affordable rate, he's even bigger and is more defensively responsible. He can also play Center if need be as well.

Both are proven winners and elevate their game during the playoffs. Carter had 4 goals in 6 playoff games last year.

Flames would save approximately 1.55mil this year to pursue other key rentals for the playoffs and 4.925mil next year to help re-sign Gaudreau/ Tkachuk/ Mangiapane/ Kylington. If Carter doesn't work for some reason, trade him as a rental for another piece or pick.

I like Dube and Lucic, but something has to give eventually. Everybody keeps saying Lucic is garbage and you would have to add a sweetener or pay another team to move Lucic, so I did that.

@Renidrag You always need to be looking to improve your Team for now and in the future. Many Teams wait till the Trade Deadline, but I believe they should be moved and tried out earlier and given time to gel with the team. One or both of the Monahan and Lucic contracts will likely need to be moved to re-sign key players and we may need to package Dube, Valimaki and/ or Zary to find better, more affordable, players or solutions.

Question: Can Lucic be traded for future considerations and then traded back at 50% retained for a Draft Pick or is this illegal/ collusion!?

Curious what there is to disagree with in the above:

-Would the Flames not clear Cap Space this year and next?
-Is Boyle not bigger than Lucic and more defensively minded?
-Will it not take Lucic + a good pick/ prospect/ young player and/ or salary retention to have another team take Lucic on?
-Do Teams not need to always be looking/ searching for ways to improve now and for the future?

Let me know, I appreciate the thoughts and feedback.
